10W40 oil?

I followed the oil viscosity suggestion in my operators manual for the climate it operates in. It isn't usually above 70° F where I drive so I could use 10w30 or 10w40; I chose 10w40 to err on the side of prudence 32 years ago and have not wavered.

In regards to brands of oil, I have tested the Walmart full synthetic in my bikes and it has done very well. In the Ford 2.9's I've used Quacker State and Valvoline but settled on Mobile 1 in the early 90's; I just buy one or 2 extra gallons when they have a rebate to keep the cost down.

To be 100% clear, I now use Mobile 1, 10w40 in the 2.9L's.

The day I can't buy 20w-50 in an auto parts store, I'll be going to places like Cycle Rider or the Honda/Suzuki hop around the corner from me to get it. I've already found that there are no oil change places where I live that will put in anything but colored water oil. So having to resort to changing it myself. I only hate it because of having to get rid of the old after you're finished.

What's wrong with using Supertech?
I run Supertech synthetic in the wife's Chrysler minivan. It holds 6 quarts so using the name brand stuff costs too much, also the filters are $9. I change every 5000 miles so the oil isn't even breathing hard. Oil life monitor if good for 10k. Got a used oil analysis on it once and it came back fine.

I'm usually running rotella t6 but that sounds like a great alternative.

Only one I've banished to the realm of Stant, Standard Motor Products, E3 Plugs, etc is Mobil.

**** Mobil.

Part stores around here take it for free

Auto Zone does here as well. I just have about seven gallons of used motor oil, and several gallons of power steering fluid and brake fluid I need to be rid of. And also five gallons of Purple Power parts cleaner. I used it to clean the intercooler on the L when I did the blower sap in July 2018. I have since put an oil separator on the L to keep oil from being a problem again.

If you're close to Pittsburgh PA, I will take ALL used motor oil. Don't care if your husky peed in it. It all burns.

oil brands seems highly debatable too.... I have no preference in brands. I found the best local deal is at Family Farm and Home. They have 5 quarts jugs for around $10. Seems like decent oil. I've never had any issues with oil and i've used dozens of different brands. They all did what they needed to do... Read this:

I buy whatever's on sale. Usually from Amazon or the Supertech from Wally World (back in the good old days) when I used to go there. Our Home Depot actually has some very competitive pricing.

One of these days I'll mail some to you. That would be some postage. I usually save up 10-12 gallons before I head to the recycler.

Im kinda likein the 10w40 quakerstate high mileage and lucas high mileage i poured in...my lifter tick is 99% gone

I run SuperTech "Synthetic" in everything I can. It's actually decent oil, and enough cheaper that I can afford to change it more often. The best oil is clean oil.

Unfortunately my newest car requires 5W-40 synthetic, and they don't have that in SuperTech.

Have you tried rotella t6? Comes in that weight, synthetic, and with the occasional rebate I pay something like $12 a gallon.

I'm running their Synthetic Truck series in the 2011 right now. Not outrageously impressed with it. Motorcraft filter.

Stuff gets stinky fairly quickly. Cant tell color of it worth a ****, as I usually run MOS2 with my oil, and it darkens it quite a bit.
