hey guys, i recently picked up a rugged ridge 10,500 lb winch off craigslist. then, when my old battery bit the dust, i went ahead and upgraded to an optima yellow top. my question is will this be sufficient to power the winch or not? i already have it on a reciever mount, and im looking into picking up a hitch for the front from a junk yard. wiring it all is gonna be 4 gauge jumper cable.
thanks in advance,
jay

id get a second battery thats dedicated to it, cus if you winching and the truck dies, you may not have enough juice to get it going again.

x2 on the second battery. a really good deep cycle perhaps? anyway, Optima's quality has suffered significantly since they were sold out to a large corp. a few years back. lots of posts here and on other sites about that. i'd go with a good Diehard or similar quality battery really. maybe use the yellow top for your winch and another good battery for your truck, idk. either way, you'll need one of those dual battery isolator/charger's that hook up to your alternator so both will be kept charged.
just my $.02.

i would say another battery you will be happy you have it when you run outta juice and can still start the truck...plus if you are goin front and rear winch it will be a huge advantage. painless makes a good dual battery isolation kit. have fun with it though. plus you can do the bigger amp alternator from explorers and such

I was in a similar situation as you, and opted to put a second battery in. I can winch forever and never have an issue. Its not hard to do.

even on -40 * C days, unplugged, I BARELY have to touch the key and the engine starts.
