i put a 1 wire alternator on for my ranger 306 swap and i realized that its not charging even tho its brand new. i read somewhere that you gotta take it to like 3000 for it to start charging? is that true, or should i just say screw it, since i read its not the ideal setup, and switch to a 3g alternator?

One wire alternators don't do well at idle.

If it puts out >13.5v at 1500+ rpm, it should suffice. Your call.

i ran it today and before i started it the battery was at 12.4 and when it was running it was at 11.87 even when i took it up to 4000. i checked and the case is grounded sufficiently so im guessing i got screwed w/ this alternator since i cant return it cuz the powdercoat is scratched and i dont have the box. anyone know if tuff stuff performance is any good and this was a fluke since they are the only ones ive found so far that offer a black 3g alternator (everything on the truck is black) to replace it and make it "right".
