What would you recommend? I see some kits using .250 wall DOM, but while pricing parts individually, I am finding parts to build with .120 wall a lot easier. Just wondering what other have built theirs out of.

If this is for steering I assume....don't go less than 0.219. I'd probably go the 0.250...........0.120 is too thin IMHO

Mine is 0.219

Yes this is the steering section. And .219? where the hell do you find that size?

I don't think it is a common size, but its perfect for tapping 7/8-18 threads which are what all chevy 3/4 TRE's and DRE's are and so it works out nicely (no weld in bungs).

I got my tierods made at a shop by me (wfoconcepts.com) and they used the 1.25" OD .219 wall tubing, tapped for the chevy ends. That's predominantly what they use.

But they also do 1.5" OD, 1.063 ID .219 wall for use with their chevy weld in bungs which have a OD of 1.063".

And the also do 1.5" OD 1" ID .250 wall for everything else.

What are your plans? Tapped? Weld in bungs? Heims? Hydro assist?

I still vote for .250 wall if you'll be doing some serious wheeling.

^These are good people. I've personally dealt with both Trevor and Beau and their service, quality and knowledge base is exceptional.

Needless to say there are many other good online retailers as well, including ruffstuffspecialties and sometimes I use ballistic (if I'm not in a hurry....lol).

I'm looking at weld in bungs and hiems. Been looking over Ballistic and RuffStuff's site.

.250 minimun...id say the 120 wall would be weaker then stock.

mine will be done out of 1.5 .250 wall

Agreed. I would guess that the stock draglink on a D35 TTB is either .250 wall or solid stock. I can't confirm though, I'm just going off of what I remember about how heavy it was when I took mine off.

********Sorry double post. That's what happens when I try to talk on a forum from my phone.

Stock tierods are made of solid rod.

I could probably bend .120 with just my hands.
(ok, maybe not lol . but you get the point) Use the thicker stuff. :icon_thumby:

Thats what I was thinking. Just couldn't figure out why .120 wall accessories are easier to come by.

.120 tubing for steering?? I don't think I've seen anything that thin myself... The thinnest I seem to recall having seen is .180 or so.

I would go with 1.5" 0.250 wall along with 2.0" 0.250 wall over top of it with plug welds on both ends to make sure it stays strong and true...

Maybe on your monster Rick, but not on my tiny D35.

Build it once, and beat the hell out of it, it will stay true, even when you're driving on the sidewalls :D
