Hi guys!

New to the forums, just found this place after a little searching. I was hoping this would be the place that has the answers for me.

I was wandering if anyone has done a 302 conversion on an '08 XLT or similar. I was told by a friend that I won't be able to get it to fit. This will be my first big project as well.

Any feedback you guys have for me is much appreciated.

thanks in advance.

When a buddy says something can't fit, they are challenging you.

If a 4.6 can be squeezed (yes they are much wider then a 5.0) under the hood of a ranger, a 5.0 will fit just fine. People are doing this kind of swap all day long. You can even put a 351 inner the hood too.

But it's all in how much fab skills you have, tools and budget.

Welcome! Really kind of easy with a 302/5.0L, no major fab required, just mounts. Wiring with any newer than 2000 will require more figuring out the electical system. Good link to a build of a 2005 - http://www.therangerstation.com/forums/showthread.php?t=91026.
Lots of help here so jump right in.

Edit: Above comments are meant for the OHV versions, not the newer OHC motor. That gets really involved and expensive but been done.

302 wont fit?! bah, people are putting 393s and 454s under the hood. Besides, an Explorer 302 is basically designed to fit in this engine bay.

Awesome! that's what I needed to hear (or see) and thanks for the post to the electrical system work! Hoping to get this all started soon.
