Test drove a new '08 Sport Trac today. The lease on my '05 is almost up (I lease a new rig through my company every 3 years). It drives niiiiiiiice. Me like.
Could be the new JohnnyO ride. I'll keep y'all posted.

Heather wants a sportstrac. They seem to hold their resale value for what I can tell.

Have you had many problems with yours?

I wish they had kept the solid axle in the rear, but that's not where the market is going. I'm sure it rides great with the IRS.

independant rear suspension? You just ruined my day.

No problems at all. Three years old, 45K. I did replace the shocks a while ago. OE Sport Trac shocks are flabby to the point of being dangerous.
My '05 for $29k, book wholesale is about $15k now. Curiously, the '08 I'm looking at has a bit more equipment but the sticker is only about $300 more than my '05 was (neither is real loaded).

Yours is still worth 15K?

i had an 02' and the only prob we had was the overdrive but that was out fault we payed i think 32.000 for it and we sold it to the jeep dealership for 5000 and to this day everytime i see that style sports trac i start air humping

Nothing wrong with that IRS. What difference does it make to someone that isn't planning to modify it? None.

Yeah, I can't find any around here in the price range I am looking for. They must all still be too new. Keep us informed, if you get one we want pics!

A big difference. You obviously haven't worked on the newer Explorers. Did you know that the rear springs are prone to cracking and breaking, just like Escorts in the 90s? Or that the lower control arm bushings like to dry up and rot prematurely? The parts are weaker and more expensive to service than a solid axle. The IRS in these things has far more problems than the solid axle.

Yea i wanted to know. I LOVE those sport tracs. Especially the with the adrenalin package :woot: only thing i was curious about is you can have them with a 4.0 and a 4.6. My truck with the 4.0 is so torquey that it makes me happy. But with a sport trac, it mus be heavier... 4 door and everything. Is the 4.6 a must???

To all,

I have an 05 sports track. I also replaced the factory shocks. They were junk. What a difference it made. I have 35k miles on it. It's a 4x4 with the 4.0. No problems at all to date. I pull an 18 foot Caravelle open bow boat with it. It is a good tow vehicle

My parents 4.0 4dr Explorer is pretty spunky with 3.73 gears, for how big and heavy it is. It might even take my F-150 for a short while, until the 5.4 overcomes the 3.31 gears then it would be ugly. I don't know what the weight difference is between the two, but unless you are towing alot the 4.0 will be fine.
