Bought my 02 new and had no issues with it other than alignment when new until I traded on an 08. The 08 is noticeably noiser (air noise around upper door/window) at highway speeds (Both sides). Ford used to brag about making the quietest vehciles, and they did do a very good job.It would now appear they're letting that go by the wayside

Have 4.0 w/auto and get 20.2 mpg just driving. Lost a couple mpg over the 3.0/auto. Still an excellent small pickup that is still very utiltarian.

Many factors can account for road noise. The tires you have on, a more aggressive tread the more noise. If there are window vent/shades on your window I have found that those make some road noise as well. Engine noise could attribute to the extra noise as well.

It's most certanly got to be those extra ponies under the hood...

No, seriously, my guess would be the tires. I don't know if you have a 4WD or not, but the Goodyear Wrangler tires they put on those truck SUCK!

Try adjusting the tip in. Here are some of the Window Tip-In Adjustment - Door.

Tools Required

#6 Inverted TORX® Socket

1. Position the window fully up.
2. Remove the large access plug from under the front of the door.
3. Loosen the window regulator front channel mounting nut.
4. Remove the reflector from the trim panel
5. Loosen the jack screw jam nut.
6. Adjust tip in with the jack screw.
o Turn the jack screw clockwise to tip the window outward.
o Turn the jack screw counterclockwise to tip the window inward.
o One turn of the screw equals approximately 1 N•m (0.04 in) change at the top of the window.
7. Tighten the jack screw jam nut.
8. Lower the window.
9. Tighten the window regulator channel front mounting nut.
10. Raise the window and check the alignment.
11. Install the access plug under the front of the door.
12. Install the reflector in the door trim panel.

I hope this could help you.

Those tires may suck in poor weather and offroading, but they are a VERY quiet tire. I'm somewhat satisfied with mine. They're wearing very well and they have great dry-weather performance. If he has the BFG A/T's then yes, I'd say it's the tires.

I have no noise in my extended cab except the noisy duratech engine. Its mostly evident when Im idling at a light but when Im driving its quiet.

Do you have the ventshades on your newer truck and not your older one? I have noticed some wind noise coming from them on my F-150...

Before you start trying to realign your windows I would let the dealer look at it, then they can't say you mucked it up and it is your fault.

Maybe if you turn down the stereo it would be quieter, seriously just because you got a premium sound package it makes it like 2x as loud. duh

Or you could just wear earplugs?

I bet its because the windshield is at a different angle, or if you went from 2wd to 4wd or the other way around could be different because of height between ground and truck or the frontend dipping down a little more or something aswell.

Thanks folks. This is air noise, not tires, engine, etc. It has done it since day one and I'm only now getting serious about getting it fixed (7500 miles - 8 mo. old). It does have ventshields but these were only put on a few months ago and had no effect on the air noise either increase or decrease. My 02 was very tight and quiet even when I traded it for the 08 and they both are the same configuration (2wd extended cab) and have the same tires from the factory (Continential cheaps). I just have not had the feeling that the new one is as solidly built as my older (02) was.

Anyway, took it to the dealer this AM and expect to get sloughed off later today with something like 'the mechanic listened to it in the shop and couldn't hear any noise.' Will report if they come up with anything.

Dealer realighned the tops of the doors. Drove it home and I'd say it's no better. Thinking of taking off the ventshades to see it they will help. Now. How do you get them off? Maybe heat to see if the adhesive loosens enough to pull them out.

I don't know about your truck, but my doors were bent way out of shape when I got my '86. It was so bad that I could fit my pinky through the gap with the door closed.

My solution is to sit on the seat, door open, one foot on bottom of door, and give the window frame a good tug. Usually fixes that bitch right up :D

No seriously, I'd try the vent shades. I have seen some that clip on, some magnetic ones, and glued/taped on. Air leaks suck!
