08 FX4 SAS

No... the front bumper didn't happen. That got shot down well before Christmas. I did however get a pretty complete CB radio set up (less the coax cable). The wife had also seen me looking at tires online... so she bought a wheel barrow tire and lined it with cash and wrapped it up... Tire fund money! So it was a good day for Uncle Gump... and several things are taken off the wish list.

I was gonna ask how the trans temp gauge and cooling fan were working for you... I've been looking at transmission coolers to upgrade my truck... and it seems your recent experience suggests a good arguement for increasing the surface area of the cooler itself. But plowing through 4 feet of snow... did airflow to your cooler get packed full of snow?

bummer on the torsen. i prefer a selectable in the front, but the tru-trac and torsens are real good compared to a clutch posi.

how did the splines look?

might need to upgrade axles if you get any heavier

Sounds like a good Christmas! The temp gauge is nice to have so I know when to give the tranny a rest. The fan helps a bit but not as much as i hoped. I will have to look into other options in the future. At some points my rad etc. was all covered with snow so ya that probably didn't help.

The torsen did really well for the year that I had it. Its amazing the difference it made. But it just couldnt take the abuse I guess. Unfortunately there arent many options for the Dana 35 IFS. Its torsen or auto locker. And i wouldnt want an auto locker up front. Splines are all good. I think the gears inside the torsen unit itself are broken. I didnt open it up cause I didnt want to void any warranty.

I will be going to a Core 44 With an E-locker up front once I can afford it.

Damn, that's some serious camping.

Yeah... that is hard core for sure. We did some winter camping in my youth but it involved an army tent and a wood stove.

If that was me hauling that winch cable uphill in deep snow I would have been mumbling 4 words... Ski Doo and Motel room.

We did it in boy scouts. Normal tent and mummy bags.

Best sleeping ever. Nice and cool, quiet with NO bugs.

My bag was rated to 0* and if it got below that you knew it. Up until then it was toasty warm.

That is some pretty serious snow wheeling though, looks like fun. :icon_thumby:

Ya i gave my girlfriend the sleeping back so she did okay. I just had a couple quilts. The first night wasnt bad but the second night I froze my ass off. It got down to around -10 C. Im gonna have to figure out a heating setup in my tent if I do this more often.

You know you can get sleeping bags that you can zip two of them together... :icon_thumby:

ive been very entrigued by your build and have been looking to do similar with my fx4. I’ve veen reading through this thread and would just like to know where the build is at today. As in suspension wise and drivetrain and such

Current Setup
4 inch superlift on torsion bars - I removed the body lift and sold my coilovers
6 inch skyjacker leaf springs - no lift blocks
Factory Torsen in the rear - Open diff in the front (I blew up my front torsen a couple months back)
4.56 gears
35 x 12.5 R15 Goodyear MTRs
Stock 4.0L & Auto Trans

Im currently installing my Behemoth drivetrain Strong Box Shorty Doubler and once my parts show up I'll be doing a solid axle swap

G2 Core 44 for a Jeep TJ - 5.13 gears and Truetrac diff
Coil springs - 3 link - 1 ton steering
Rear is getting 5.13s and a mini spool
Then probably some 37 x 14.5 r15 Toyo Open Country MTs

Pic of the Strong box fully assembled. Its currently in the truck and working! The low range is insane! 6.15:1 I just have 2wd for now. I'm not making a front driveshaft till i finish the SAS

Man, how do you stay warm camping in the snow??

snow is actually a good insulator. It's that cold, biting wind that you have to watch out for.

That strong box looks good. Wish I had one.
