I installed a HID kit a couple days ago and so far works great. I got the HI/LOW kit and it came with a relay to control the HI/LOW. Prob now is with my DTR the relay buzzes pretty loud. As soon as I turn on the headlights the buzzing goes away. I am assuming because the DTR is a lower voltage its causing an issue with the relay.

Anyone have any ideas on how/if I can solve this prob?

I think he means DRL (day time running lights)

The DRL runs the high beam circuit at a lower voltage, that it probably messing with the 12v relay for the HID's.

measure your voltage from your drl out and find a relay that works on that voltage and wire it in so your low beams come on oh get rid of that thing and put a aftermarket drl in that runs just your low beams on 12 volts where did you get the hid kit?

Yeah I am going to get a relay that apparently is all good to plug in and fix the problem. He also has the relay I need to do the fog light/hi beam fix as well. Hope it works.

I got the HID kits from www.hidlook.com

The guy is really great to deal with and the pricing/product is good too.

Did you put the proper projector housing in your headlights?

Or are you just running them illegally and blinding every other driver on the road?

I really like the HID's but I see way to many people being cheap about it and just changing the bulbs/ballast then the rest of us on the road have to deal with the blinding obnoxious headlights.

Sorry if I sound a little bitter about this but I almost ran over a dog last night because of some jackass with an HID kit in his F150.

Chris,
Do you have a link to the legal code on this?

using projector headlights does not make them "legal", and since when does the ranger come with day time running lights?

I think that's a Canuck thing.

It's illegal... I posted a link to a site where they tested HID conversions and every single one of them failed... It was in another HID thread... Cops love to write tickets for them here in town... If you don't have the correct projector housing, they are not DOT approved...

http://www.therangerstation.com/forums/showthread.php?t=40710

There is the link to the thread, for some reason my computer won't paste the link to the actual website, but it's linked in that thread in post #14... That website has actual DOT testing .pdf's where the conversions failed...

Ah yes.... the HID controversy.....

There are a growing number of vehicles on the road with factory and after market HID lighting systems these days. Yeah I agree they can be a bit much when encountering an on coming vehicle but the only ones that seem overly bright are the ones in vehicles with big lifts or miss aimed housings.

I do have a set of projector housings on the way and plan to install them as soon as they arrive and in the mean time to be courtious to other drivers I aimed my lights lower than the factory setting.

I'm sure there are people out there that would agree that the standard incandescent bulbs in most vehicles can provide less than sufficient light in certain conditions so in my honest opinion I'd rather encounter a vehicle with bright lights rather than a vehicle where the driver can't see properly.

And Chris let me ask you this.... Was the issue really the HIDs or was it the fact that there was a dog running around on the road? Or maybe you weren't paying attention?

then i'm one of the assholes cause i just ordered an HID hi/low kit and i'm not using projector's with them cause there to expensive and no funds.

You're not an asshole.

I'll tell ya this. Last Tuesday I was driving to work and a woman pulled up beside me (while we were moving) talking on a cell and checking her make up in the visor mirror. She was so distracted I had to slam on the brakes because she was drifting over into my lane. So when people say that HIDs are obnoxious at least they see them coming and might, even for a quick second, pull their head out of their ass and pay attention.
