08 FX4 HIDs

I was at a parts place today and the guy was telling me how many of the DTR modules he was selling when the USD was low and people from Canada were flocking to the states to buy "cheap" vehicles.

In Canada when you buy a vehicle that has never been registered in the province you live in you are required to get an "out of province" inspection. If the inspection fails you cannot register your vehicle which means you cannot insure it.

DTR is required legally here and if the vehicle getting inspected didn't have it would fail the inspection.

using projector headlights does not make them "legal", and since when does the ranger come with day time running lights?

yea thats why i'm getting the hi/low kit cause if they can't see the low beams they will see the hi beams and as for the asshole part thanks but if you ask all the guys in here they say different cause they seem to have problems with being blinded by people with aftermarket HID's and i did not know that day time running lights were required.

Here in Heard County, Georgia i see a good bit of vehicles with HIDs. I cannot recall a time when i was blinded by them. I do not have a problem with HIDs.

HID's with correct projectors don't bother me... It's the ones that just retrofit in place of a regular filament bulb that are dangerous... I really don't care, nor is it any of my business what you do to your vehicle... I just think it would be nice to know that if/when you do get pulled over, you weren't caught by surprise that your lights were illegal... I mean, I think it would suck to get a ticket for something I thought was legal... I informed you that it is illegal to have HID bulbs with incorrect projectors, IF it is your choice to ignore me and buy them anyway, you can't complain if/when you get a ticket :D Just to let you know, local police here love to give out DOT non-compliant headlight tickets, it's easy to spot, and hard to fight off in court... Just a word of advice for ya...

I agree. Like I said, my projectors are on the way.

There are benefits to having HIDs but installing them correctly is important too.

thanks bean like i said in the other thread i appreciate the info and when i can afford the projector's i will buy them until then i will try and not blind anybody but i don't do much night driving.

It's cool... I didn't mean to sound like an ass... If I see you on the road though, I'll make sure to flash you good, haha :D

yea i know what your saying i had no idea they were illegal but now i do it's cool to have people that can inform you before you do it especially if it's illegal

As for the HIDs only being legal with projectors, I'm pretty sure I've seen Toyota Priuses stock that come with HIDs in reflector housings, instead of projectors.

If HID's come stock in a car they have the correct housings and are aimed correctly... Otherwise they wouldn't pass DOT safety inspection...
