I used to have a '92 ranger with an explorer dif and the limited slip was way stronger it would wrap donuts on dry pavement with 31s, the FX4 wont even bust a nut when its raining, there has to be something wrong with it. not that I plan on doing donuts or wheeling it anyways, that would be a stupid thing to do to a new truck, but I still want the dif to work properly

Is it a plain FX4 or a FX4 Level II?

The plain FX4 will have the same limited slip you had in your Explorer 8.8, only the LII's had the Torson.

In recent years they kinda combined the two packages back into a plain FX4, making the Torson optional, but I don't remember for sure when that happened.

I have an '08 FX4 with the Torson and 4.0 and it hauls ass, the rear end slides everywhere in the rain

^^ Yup....what he said ^^

Don't dog it til you know what you got! I've seen the torsen do some amazing things for a limited slip. one tire off the ground, power still being sent to the tire still on the ground...

The Torsen I put in my 99 works great.

Pull the cover to make sure what you have

its a level II with 4.10s, definitely a torsion dif, Im thinkin warranty it but they might not be able to find out whats wrong with it

When I had the bfg AT on my 04 it wouldnt break lose on pavement when I brake torqued it or tried donuts, but i could role them around corners. When I put the BFG MTs on it the smoke would fly.

just remember...it still aint no locker...it's still just a limited slip unit. something is up with yours indeed, i'd say.

is also a possibility that the tires on there are pretty grabby and wont let you slip it. possible.

ill try new oil. has anyone found that different oil works better then what they recommend?

Should be running a full synthetic anyway....its what came from the factory. The sticker/tag says to run 85 or 75w140...too thick imo...I like to run Royal Purple 75w90.

Iit should work fine with the oil from Ford.

I wouldn't play with the oil until you have Ford look at it, it would be a great excuse for them to back out of fixing it.
