Okie dokie folks. Currently driving home, passer a big rig and the trans downshifted as usual (I didn't floor it) and about half way past the trans stuck at 5k rpm no matter what throttle input I gave

After this went on for about two to three seconds it went back to normal rpm but there was s shaking and it didn't quite sound right. That's when the engine light started flashing.

The light stopped flashing and went out maybe 20 seconds later.

I'm now cruising at normal rpm and speed. No shake or anything. Just a clunk more often than before (some may remember my previous thread)

So, any thoughts? Anything in can look for myself in my driveway? Storm coming tonight and I gotta work tomorrow. Think this is serious? Or a fluke? If I can't take my truck I'm not going to work.

Have you tried getting it back up to that rpm to see if it happens? I know it redlines at 6k. I think it may have something to do with the flywheel, but it's weird that the light went off.

I'll try that when I get closer to home. Gonna try it with od on and off.

well i tried it and no issues at all. got home, just for the hell of it i hooked up my dads obd2 scanner. the light went off so fast i didnt think there would be a code saved. but there was luckily.

p0303. had a bunch of crap come up with his scanner. will post the pics.

then scanned with my superchips tuner, same code #, but it said "Fault Cylinder D" rather than all the crap my dads scanner read.

guess its a good thing i have plugs and wires ready to go.

just something weirds me out about how it stuck at 5k rpm and would react to letting off the throttle, or anything.

i think their in order

thats it lol.

cleared it, went for a 15 minute drive, cruising speed, getting the rpm's up etc. didnt come back and didnt experience the bucking. will get the new plugs/wires installed asap and go from there i guess.

Honestly didnt think a code would have been saved. guess i didnt need to make this thread after all!

I guess it got a little wonky from being so cold, I would think you are fine for now unless it comes back.

That hand scanner won't get transmission codes.

A P0303 is a cylinder #3 misfire.
P0300 is misfire detected
P0301 is cylinder #1 misfire (last digit being cyl #)
Just an FYI.

As adsm08 said, you will need a better scan tool. Your description sure sounds more like a transmission issue. Possibly stuck in passing gear with the TTC locked for what ever reason, I dunno.... Just get the TCM read, then get back to us.

Wasn't even that cold lol. -20 maybe. And truck was warm from driving for 30 mins.

I'll get back to y'all. Needs an oil change soon so I'll see if they can do a better scan.

Check the fluid....

And just offhand...I had my Zuki transmission stick in low gear one time...just after I was mucking about under the hood...turned out there was a vacuum line for the transmission near the back of the engine that I managed to knock off while mucking about...put it back on and it shifted normally...

Not sure about your transmission, but some of them have filters inside the transmission that need to be changed every 100,000 km or so...
