Planning to buy a wrecked 06 ranger to swap in a 4.0 and 4x4, just wondering if during the state inspections will I have a problem with a different vin showing up? meaning if i take the computer from the 4.0 will that vin appear on the state inspection print out? thanks

my friends told me it can be an issue, they swap entire wrxs into older subarus, crazy shit

You don't say where you are.

All states have different rules for this sort of stuff. Most times if the end result is less smog it will pass.
But as a side note.. You sure have your work cut out for you. I doubt I'd undertake such a huge job. You will need EVERYTHING.. to get it swapped out and adding a front wheel drive...well I ain't gonna be spending my time doing such a huge job.

Yeah I know its a lot of work, I think it won't be such a huge hit to my wallet if I buy a totalled (Rolled) ranger with under 60k on it , swap everything, I plan to have my truck for a long time.. I will have every replacement part pretty much, makes sense to me.

Anyone know if the vin number is a factor?

Most vehicles that are totalled, come with a certificate of destruction, meaning to be parted out, or cubed (crushed) MOST states wont even allow you to license that vehicle, i went through the process on a 99 mustang gt..all it needed was a rad support and front clip, and drivers airbag and it was totalled i fixed it for less than 1400$..now its about as good as a race car, DOT inspections are very thorough and likely you'll never be able to obtain a title for that vehicle. and being the vehicle was rolled, im sure the roof skin is F$*#ED long with most of the body panels, i wouldnt waste my time buying it, yah you get some misc. parts BUT when vehicles are rolled theres TONS of hidden damage you dont see, IE bent rear axles/driveshafts tie rod ends busted radiators ect...i WOULDNT buy it..i used to do collision repair for a living ive delt with that pain in the @ss..your call tho good luck..the truck being an 06 takes 70% damage on the vehicle to total, theres alot wrong with it

im going to buy a totalled 4.0 and swap it into my 2.3 which has a clean title.

so your buying the truck to take the engine and front 4wd setup to put in your truck? just clarifying

yea thats the plan, everything out of the 06, would be available for the swap. I think it is only cost effective way of doing it. otherwise you have to buy this and that and it all adds up
