06 2.3l Wrong type of AC compressor installed on my truck?
Need some help here, done my extensive research on ranger station and on Reddit but can’t find any answers
TLDR at very bottom
1st pic, TOP is my compressor, bottom is OEM compressor from YouTube vid.
2nd pic, vin verified via FordParts diagram of the compressor and bracket
3 and up pics are different angles of my compressor.
Bought this truck for dirt cheap from a friend. 06 2.3l RWD stick. Everything’s great, AC just doesn’t work.
When doing a tune up I was trying to also change the AC compressor because the AC clutch wouldn’t click and cold air doesn’t blow.
Ordered an AC compressor with via local autoparts store, cross referenced with RockAuto as well and fordparts. The compressor on my truck was a different type and I also noticed it had a different compressor bracket to hold it. I then decided to wait til next time for the compressor replacement and tried to change the serpentine belt, the motorcraft 2.3l belt was too small, I’m assuming because of the different type of AC compressor and the pulley.
Knobs in the truck have a MAX AC section so I’m assuming it has AC? I’m not sure if it was a fleet truck that came without AC but I’m not sure how to check since I’m the 5th owner. Tried checking via VIN to see what options were installed but nothing comes up. Would the dealer know if it came with AC?
When looking at comparison photos on google along with compressor maintenance videos on YouTube, the compressors are different despite it being the same truck and trim.
So I don’t know where to go from here.
TDLR;
- 06 2.3L ranger
- not sure if it was a fleet truck w/o AC (can’t find out with vin or vehicle history for truck options)
- doing tune up wanted to change AC Compressor, with a OEM crossreferenced one via local auto parts store, couldnt because it’s a different type and different compressor bracket, tried to change serpentine belt, Motor craft 2.3l belt was too small, means compressor pulley too big
- climate control knobs have MAX ac option?
- different type of AC bracket on top of alternator, different type of bolt layout
