my buddy has an 05 ranger with the stupid switch 4x4. and sometimes he has troubles getting into and out of 4lo. when i say sometimes i guess i mean every time. if it gets into 4lo it doesnt want to come back out for awhile like last time we ran it in 4lo for about an hour or so and we had to let it sit for 2 days then i went back and played with it and finally came out of 4lo. doesnt matter if we are drowning it in water or just doing hill climbs the things has been giving problems for the last 4 months.

so i guess my question is: has anyone else ran into this problem? if so what did you end up replacing. the transfer case motor is 250 bucks from ford and i cant find it anywhere else and its special order. so i dont want to go have him drop the 250 and that not be the problem. there is only like 4 things in the 4x4 circuit. the switch, pcm, 4x4 module, transfer case motor. it probably not the switch. its not the pcm bc everything else is still working. so down the last 2 i guess.

if there are any ford techs on here that could tell me test procedure i could do that would be sweet.

ty. that will def be my next step. bc this last time we ran it.... the truck was to the headlights in water lol. thats why i let it sit for 2 days to dry out

mine did something similar clean the harness that attaches to the motor, mine was full of water

On My 99 and my 00 I have to put the truck in neutral (auto tranny) and put my foot on the brake then shift into or out of 4 low. I assume you already do this though.

What he said. Sometimes the shift motor on the t-case craps out.

yeah. i tried that the night it was f'in up. blew all the water out of the connector til it was dry which sucks when you laying in mud and its 50 degrees out and its not your truck...

but i think it was more inside the actually motor.

yeah tried all that. its a 4.0 manual with electric transfer case. after all this junk he decided that he is going to fix this other car so he can drive that and we can do a manual swap on it. which will be fun bc i get to do it and i get to mess with the interior to work with a manual

My dad's '05 Level II had problems shifting, and it was dirty contacts in the switch.
