Different. Might sound dumb, but when did they start making plugs like that?
They are only in the 3v engines, not the 2v's. They get carbon'd up and crack apart into two pieces leaving the electrode and bottom shield and porcelain stuck in the head when you go to remove them (sometimes you get lucky and they all come out, sometimes they all stay in, its a crapshoot and we tell customers this before we will even attempt to change them)
I have to ask Bob, do you just go buy random autoparts to take pictures of them?
Not random parts. The reason for the SP-507, and SP-515, the SP-515 replaced the SP-507, and is supposed to be less prone to breakage, but I didn't see any external difference in them. I'll return the SP-507, and have bought a full set of SP-515s to replace mine.
It looks like the SP-515 has more heat color around where the two parts meet, maybe they changed the welding process?
Back before I got tired of F-150 forums there was somebody (Champion I think) that was coming out with a 1 piece body to take care of this problem. Never really paid really close attention because I don't have one.
Yes, you are correct! The Champion replacement is one piece, and they have a video showing how much torque their plug will take. Unfortunately, I won't use a Champion plug in ANY of my equipment!
