im hoping i found the right topic to post this under. ive got an 04 edge 2wd 3.0l and want to convert it to 4x4. theoretically im thinking it shouldnt be that hard being they share the same suspension. im sure id have to swap the spindles, put in the front drive system and the transfer case and electronics. has anyone on here done this with the edge? a little guidance would be a great help. i cant afford to buy a 4x4 right now and i can come across junkyard parts quite cheaply. (i could probably get everything i need for around 400 bucks or so at the local u pull it) also an estimate on the amount of time it would take to complete this. ive got till the snow flies then ive got to take the bike off the road or put snow tires on it.

I did this to my 04 ranger edge, i think i posted a thread on this and i know someone else did. The other guy did a manual shift. To mount the front diff there is a bracket you need to make or cut off the frame of truck you are taking parts off of. Only 2 of the holes for the diff are on the 2wd frame. I did mine all factory so i took the whole wiring harness out of donor vehicle and spliced it into mine. It uses all the factory fuses. Your going to need a different transmission so you can bolt the trasnfer case up and rear drive shaft. I had one custom made. Probaly going to have to re gear atleast one of the diffs to match the ratios unless you can find one thats already the same. Hope this helps.

Your going to need different front rotors for 4wd also.

I bought a donor explorer for 800.00, it was a 2001 ford explorer sport
i made about 500 off the explorer parting it out leaving me 300 in.

power slot front brakes 200.00

front ford axles 200.00, ones on explorer were no good

ring and pinion front and rear around 600 ( you can skip this but i went to 4:88s)

drive shaft 175.00

trans work somewhere around 1000

So somewhere around 2100.00 for me, but i dont really count the gearing i could have got a front matching diff and saved 600 bucks
