Hi Guys,
I just registered so I could log in and say thank you to all of the knowledgable guys that post here.
Without knowing all that I was getting into I bought a 98 ranger Xcab 4x4 with a blown motor. Turns out there is a whole lot more to finding and installing the correct motor than I thought. From all of the good info I found here, I was able to locate a 2003 taurus motor with 70K miles on it and swap all of the parts over ( yes, including the head gaskets ) and install it. The motor runs absolutly perfect. ...And after all of the reading I did on how slow the 3.0 is, I was pleasantly surprised to find that its not that bad on power after all.
I went a little overboard replacing every gasket in the engine, injectors, alternator, manifolds, everything that looked even a little sketchy and I still only have about $1800 in the truck total, including buying it.
So, Thanks again - Jeff
