Truck has been down a few months. Checked with scan tool. Screen is blank. Truck turns over fine. Please help

you may have similar problem that i have. Does vehicle start if you give it gas?

No....only if I spray starting fluid into throttle body

well that tells you that spark and compression are good.

start by checking fuel pump relay, inertia switch, fuel pressure and inertia switch

does it continue to run with starting fuild? or does it stall soon after? if it stalls look at fuel delivery in particular fuel pump

Is there gas in the fuel tank?
Don't assume, lol.

When you first turn on the key you should hear the fuel pump come on for 2 seconds, then shut off.
If you don't hear the fuel pump look in the engine compartment fuse box for fuel pump fuse AND EEC fuse.

Black screen on reader could be blown EEC(computer fuse), which also powers the fuel pump relay.
Also check the cigarette lighter fuse in the cab fuse panel, it usually powers the OBD II port(code reader port)

New fuel pump and fresh gas. Runs as long as I spray starting fluid. checked all fuses with voltmeter, changed relays

what kind of scanner are you using? what do you mean the screen is "blank"? no scanner should have a blank screen unless the scanner is broke. My solus will show a communication error and even my $40 handheld will come on and attempt to link the say unable to communicate. do you have power at the DLC? is the 5 volt reference present? The PCM is obviously not bad if it runs on starting fluid. Start by borrowing a noid light set and see if you've got injector pulse. If yes, move on to fuel delivery I.E. pressure/volume test. If you don't have pulse, check for a 5v reference at each injector, if yes, check for ground signal. I think you'll find the reference voltage, I doubt the PCI bus would be down only on the IDM. check for ground signal at the pcm with a test light. I think that ultimately you're going to find an anti-theft issue most likely the PATS module shutting down the fuel system. Go run these tests and tell me what you find.

Its my neighbors truck and its raining, so it will probably be tomorrow before I get back to it

Its an autel scan tool and the screen stays blank. I know its good because it works on my daughters car

The scan tool is powered by the connector. power for the connector is usually on the same fuse as the cig. lighter, see if you have power there.
