im pretty new to fords but it has done it before and it was the inertia switch. this time it wouldnt reset so unplugged it and the connector looked melted/charred. so clipped the wires and wire nutted them together to bypass it,still the pump is not kicking on.havent tried fuses or relays dont know where exactly they are located?? could relay or fuse be shot or may it just be the fuel pump itself, any way to test pump without pulling it out. any help would be great thanks,Dave

It's probably more likely to be a fuse than the pump. If you've got an owner's manual the fuse/relay locations are listed there. You really need a manual and Haynes is a good inexpensive choice for most DIY'r repairs and troubleshooting. You can get them in most auto parts stores.

yeah i havent got around to getting a haynes, havent had a reason to use it yet with my truck untill now.

ok well i guess the inertia wires i bypassed werent getting a good connection,re-did them now pump is kicking on and have pressure in the rail but it still is refusing to fire up. i turned the key a few times to build pressure back in the lines but still nothing? anyone got anything? havent had any ignition problems before plugs and wires are maybe 25000 miles old.

how would i go about doing that by myself?

If you attach a wire to the small connector on the starter solenoid you can put it to the pos terminal on the battery to crank over the motor while you look for spark. Make sure the truck is in neutral or park with the wheels blocked, don't want you running yourself over.

come to find out there is alot of water in my gas tank for some reason!!! syphoned out the tank the best i could put a bottle of heet and fresh gas in it but watered gas is still coming out of the fuel rail and wont fire up. is that old gas still left in the lines, how do i cycle it out? where do i go from here...plugs,fuel filter?
