02 Sensor problem

A few months ago, around the time I replaced my spark plugs, I received a check engine light. I took it to Advanced Auto Parts and discovered that it is the O2 Sensor behind the catalytic converter. After printing off the info, I deleted the code. It stayed off for 200 miles. Long story short, I've been doing this for at least 1000 miles. I feel like it comes on only if I drive in heavy rain, however it will stay on until it is cleared, regardless of conditions.

1) Is there a way to check and see if my 02 sensor is working properly?
2) Do these symptoms sound add up to a diagnosable problem?

Thanks for the help. I can certainly get more specific if anyone has any questions about the problem.

02 senser

You can plug in a scanner that reads the sensor live and tells you what its doing. The problem is most likely caused by something that was or wasn't changed with the spark plugs causing the cat to get to much fuel. 02 sensors don't really go bad (except on older vehicles ). Make sure you have the right plugs, and that everything else is right, wires, airfilter, pvc, oil, and clean mas air sensor.:icon_cheers:

Alright, I headed out and took a closer look as it was getting dark. I hadn't noticed before, but the wiring harness for the O2 sensor had almost been severed by the drive shaft. Millions of rotations had worn a "dent" into the bundle or wires (2 were totally cut, 2 were almost clean through, and one was fine). I've cut and spliced everything back together. The exposed wires (and cut wires) explain why it was happening when the road was wet.

Thanks for the help
