Question...not sure if this is the right forum but ill give er a shot...

My nephew has a 2002 Chrysler sebring convertable, it has a bum 2.7 DOHC engine (gone due to no oil pressure, a new engine would do no good as to a bad design on chryslers part...ive researched it), the steaming pile of shit has only 150K with a decent body (a few dents) and a awesome white leather interior, good top, etc, basically just the engine is screwed.

I want this thing out of my yard and wondering what a fair price would be to ask for it on craigslist? I was thinking 8 or 900 bucks....its to nice to just scrap...but way to much of a pain in the ass to part out (you have to pull half the engine compartment out to get the damn battery out).

FYI he picked up a 97 Aerostar for 600 bucks to beat around in....best vehicle hes had so far. :icon_cheers:

To be honest it isnt worth much more than scrap value. Maybe 5 or 600 bucks. It is an 11 yearold car with a junk engine. If it is exceptionally good condition other than the engine, put a running engine in it and you can get some decent money for it. Figure 700 for a running engine and 300 in misc parts andinstallation fees. Sell it for 2500.

Just my thoughts

yep they're worth about 500 to 600 because 90 percent of the time it's the engine. those engines suck...

180/ton last I heard, not sure if they ding you for the amount of plastic or not though. :icon_twisted:

150k was a good run for a piece of shit 2.7. I replaced 2 of them with crate engines at work. One blew a couple rods (and drove into the shop :icon_surprised:) at 108k and the timing chain tensioner let go and bent some valves on the other one at 72k.

bent valves is how they normally go...my dad fixed like 4 of them at his shop. he suggested either putting it on craigslist for 500 bucks or getting a junk yard engine for 500 or so and running it till you can afford a new car :icon_twisted:

I would not imagine the nightmare of trying to pull the engine out of this thing...plus since all 2.7s are garbage the chances of geting a good one are pry slim to none....

I know its not bent valves cause its knocking...rod knocking. I guess ill just haul it to the scrap yard...hes got something else to drive ( a 97 3.0L aerostar, its better for hauling his music shit anyways lol).

Thanks guys.

If the body is that nice, I'd try to sell it before I junked it, just to keep it alive plus you might get more out if it in the end. I just hate to see a decent car go you know. But scrapping it might be less of a headache.

throw a 4.0 in there. :icon_twisted:

How bout i just throw it on a F150 4x4 frame and have a convertable mud bogger! I think that would be a pita though...

I like the Sebring for the convertible top. That is the only good thing about it.

It's a shame Chrysler has so much potential but somehow they only know to build crap.

Perhaps it's a good design(they have a good styling dept.) and then corporate extracts all the "cost savings" out of it for max profit, then it's shit. Deep deep debt Chrysler(is a registered trademark of whoever holds the debt!).

The company I work for has NO Chrysler buisness, plenty of GM,(all sorts of Japanese makers), and GM, every time the company makes a bid on a Chrysler contract, they get the response "not competitive" We are not in the buisness of loosing money.

I think Toyota Solara is a much better convertible top car.
