Hey, I'm wanting to do a whole sound system in my truck and would like pics of how you have done subs/amps, head units...

I park on the street so I dont want anything too visible also I need to keep my rear seats functional.

any help on what to buy would be greatly appreciated.

Also I havent found too many different choices for double DIN head units, so far Ive been looking at the pioneer avic D3, has anyone here put that unit in their truck with good results?

I have a Pioneer DEH-4800MP with an adapter, I like the adapter because its got a place for the remote, and I am currently building a new box to fit under my back seats for my Pioneer 10" subs. I can get pictures when its done if you would like.

check out this page The single sub enclosure allows you to keep the jump seats, although sitting in them would be uncomfortable, also very noticeable. the dual enclosure you lose the jump seats but is much more stealthy. at least hese will give you an idea for building one of your own. I personally have no use for the jump seats, so those will be coming out to accomodate my sub enclosures (one 12" on each side) but if you must keep the seats, my suggestion would be to have them down and measure how much space you have and start by building a box with cardboard templates.(I have already started cutting templates for mine) good luck with it and I hope you get it to work for your needs.

FYI, it's not a double DIN opening, it's a DIN and a half.

I just went with a singe DIN head unit and the adaptor to hold it in, carved that up to fit my CB and all is well. My Ranger sports a Pioneer 7600, but once you pop the faceplate off, it looks just like the 3500 that's in my one BII, so thieves have no idea if it's a cheap or expensive one when the faceplate isn't on.

It's not easy to put subs and such in a supercab and still have full use of the rear seats. IMHO, probably the cheapest and easiest solution would be to put a single 12" sub in a truck box and fasten it to the rear wall of the cab in the middle, then throw a towel or something over it.

I had a car box with a pair of 12's in it behind my seats for a couple years, with it laying down like it's supposed to, you couldn't tell what it was behind the seats, and it made a fine table about the same height as the center console. Downside was you couldn't use either jumpseat. Then I stood it up on end behind one seat, and that would allow someone to cram in there on the other side, but it wasn't comfortable.

I've seen people build boxes in the jumpseat wells, but I use those to store stuff like a jack, jumper cables, MRE's, bottled water, other survival gear.... I don't really want to give that up if I can help it.

Are you sure your 00' is the same as my 02'? I've been looking at only double din units and the measurements are the same as my stock 6-disk unit.

I got a pair of MTX for the front and JBL's for the rear doors, Im going to go with the clarion DD unit. Still undecided about subs, I may not bother because I don't want a break in.

Its a DIN and a half opening, I still haven't finished my box yet because I ran out of time before it got cold again.

Newer Rangers have the full double-DIN opening. Link<--here is a guy who installed a double-DIN stereo in his Ranger with no modifications to his dash. Oh and if you do get subs and/or amps, call your insurance company and let them know. If they get stolen, they will NOT be covered. But if you tell them about it and show receipts, they'll cover them for an extra dollar a month or so.

I thought for sure that it was the same, but I dunno... I really don't see how mine could be a double din opening. I do believe that some companies make din and a half sized head units, but they're not very common.

the link exbass94 posted has pics of what mine looks like, that is DD right? I don't know a whole lot of audio terminology.

any one know how to change the color of gauages? (to red)

Out of my own curiosity could you just get rid of the back to the fold in seats and hide subs in there, then when you leave close em so it looks like you don't have any?

I'm not even sure if its possible... but sounds good.
