Ok so I've found a really really good deal on an 02.5 dodge front d60...
It's the one without the vacuum CAD. Is this axle worthy of using or should I keep searching for a Ford 60.

I found it for $150 with a mangled 4 link bracket, that's way better than a $1000 Ford axle...

Its not going to have hubs though! It will have a great unit bearing design...thats why I own a 2wd Dodge:icon_thumby:

But sounds like a good deal to me.

Pretty sure you could get your money back out of it if you didn't like it. :icon_thumby:

Not having hubs is a bonus... It saves from more parts breaking, and keeps me from going out and buying a set of drive flanges. As far as the hub bearing I don't suppose they'd wear out so fast with only a SBF, rollcage, and a gutted ranger on em...

Besides I did a set of those last week for a customer and my shop cost was only $75. When my D44 ate a set of bearings last year it ran $115...

Which dana 44 bearings are your referring too?

Btw...I just looked on auto zone for the wheel bearings/hub assembly for a 2001 Dodge 5.9 Diesel and it was $312 for the Timken.

So how in the hell were unit bearings/hub assembly cheaper than the 10 bearings in a dana 44????????

Almost positive the Dodge axle has 30 spline shafts inner & outer (it's also lo-pinion). The inner shafts probably could be swapped to 35 using a 35 spline locker, though I'm not so sure about swapping the outers short of using Dynatrac's $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ free-spin kit.

I'd look for a '05up Ford 60 myself. 35 spline shafts all the way to the locking hub stock, and less $$$ than the "old" 60s because people are always scared the unit bearings and ball joints might explode.

2 bearings, a hub, a rotor, a caliper, and a warn premium hub... I did good for $115... I also drove it another 4 mi to work... Cheaper than a tow.
As for the dodge bearings, we get em through a 2nd party warehouse, 3day wait... No parts store mark up. Same w/ superdumpster bearings, and a/c parts.

Thank you. That's the kinda answer I was looking for.

A few hours ago on Craigslist I came up w/ basically the same thing. I called that guy, turns out he's 3.5 hrs from me, and also saw that there is tons of SuperDumpsters being parted out. Although the metric 8 lug slightly turns me off...

Hey junkie, what's the difference with 99-04 350 & 250 axles, compared to the 05+ axles you mentioned...?

99-04 are set up for leaf spring...most of which in the SRW trucks were actually a D50, not a D60. The ones that were a true D60 were 35 spline inners with 30 spline outers. Still the same 8x170 bolt pattern.

2005+ are all true D60's with 35 spline inners and outters and set up for coil springs.

Get the 10.5" rear to match it (you'll get disc brakes at the same time too). The 10.5 is every bit as good as a D70 or a GM 14B.

Sasquatch has the rest of your answer.
Also SRW trucks from '02-'04 should be true D60s IIRC (the 50 being a '99-'01 thing), but still with 30 spline outers.

The 50 was available right up until the coil spring switch over in 05.

I forgot the Excursion did carry onward with the D50. '02-'04 F-250s/350s should have a 60 though (at least that's what I've always been led to believe anyway... Pretty sure the axle I saw under a friend's 03 F-250 was a 60 also).

Is there an easy way to tell em apart? The only d50 I know how to identify is the leaf-sprung TTB...
