Hi, Just want to start off by saying that this website and all contributors are amazing. I have a 2001 ford ranger edge ext cab 4.0 2wd and want to lift it to accomodate 33" tires. I'm new at this so bare with me. I'd like to have at least a 5" to 6" total lift. Now i'm running on a budget and would like to know some of your ideas for this project. I'm planning on adding a 3" body lift kit to start with. Also by adding 33" tires, would i have to regear the truck, and if so, is this something expensive? Thanks for all your advice.:headbang:

It depends on what gears you have in there now but I would probably say that you would have to re gear. I bought my gears and bearing install kit for 240 and am having them installed for 400.

I really doubt you will absolutely NEED a regear. I have an 02 edge with a 3.0 v6, 4.10 gears(stock), and 33's. My truck does fine everywhere but the highway. But, you a have 4.0 so i really doubt you will have the same problem cuz you have way more torque and hp than I do. I would really recommend not getting a body lift. Instead look for a set of fabtech spindles and have the snouts replaced so they won't break on you. And for the rear get an add a leaf, or new shackles.

I didnt realize edges cam with 4.10s if thats the case you wont need to re-gear it. And X2 on no body lift

i basically have the exact same truck. 01 4.0 edge ex cab....i installed a set of fabtech spindles and the t bars were already cranked when i bought it. from stock its about 5.5 to 6 in lift...im running 32s but can easily run 33s.

my truck came stock with 3.55 gears...even with the 4.0, its still not great on the hwy. im thinking on gearing to 4.30s... i had them in my f150 with 35s and the truck felt amazing.

Im not super sure if all edges came with 4.10s. I just know mine did because of the door tag. :headbang:

I think most 4wd Edges had 4.10's because they had the taller 16" tires. 2wd Edges all came with 15" wheels as far as I know, and so they may have 3.73's. 4.56 gears would keep the rpm vs. road speed close to stock with 33" tires.

I would try fabtech spindles only up front (not the whole truck kit), and some 2" lift shackles out back. (I have fabtech AAL in back and its too stiff for road)

'03 edge, 3.0, 4.10s, 2wd. Yes, the 2wd have 4.10s also.

The 4.0s usually have 3.73s. I guess with more power they don't gear them as low.

I have 33x12.50s with a fabtech spindle lift no problems. I did trim fenders previously because I was running 33s with only t-crank, but doubt the trimming is necessary after the lift. My 4.10s are fine except on highway with hills.

^^^^^same story. You should try taking out the overload leaf. I heard it helps soften the ride. Also, put a spare back their and fill the stock spare with water for even more weight.

Good suggestions. Not something I would do.

My rear barely has enough height as it is with the add-a-leaf, don't want it getting any lower.

As far as the spare and water...If offroading mainly at speed I would put the fullsize spare in the bed. But for on-road I am keeping it light, I still get 20mpg highway with the 33x12.50s.

Really is your truck a stick shift? I get 17 at the best, and I am babying it. Maybe its because you have a single cab...i hope. Haha.
