What did YOU do today?

if you are going to do your outprocessing now, they should send you to the doc during your out-processing so everything gets documented to the va. but make sure and list everything when you go to sick call, go over everything you can remember.

some va claims go through in 6 weeks or less and some take years if they get denied and then the appeal gets denied and you have to get a lawyer and go to the va judge, like i had to do. my longest claim, that went to the judge, took a little over 4 years to get approved, though you get backpaid to the initial claim date so you get a lump sum check taht can be huge. some guys here are work got 100k. mine was 35k and after the lawyer got her parts, i got 28k

I'm going to request a final physical for my out processing but I'm not holding my breath. Apparently, our unit hasn't done that in a long time.

I'm fully expecting all of them to be denied on the first go around (it is the VA after all) and I'll work with people certified in the filing of the paperwork and getting the best chance to get them approved. I think the hardest fight is going to be the hearing disassociation from decades of jet fuel exposure. I'm told the VA tries to have you take a standard hearing test. Those don't test for the issue. It's not a hearing ability problem, it's the processing of what you are hearing problem. I've been passing hearing tests for decades.

Heard a co-worker talking about that a few years ago. He claimed to be affected by it, but I question if that was his actual affliction. What's the term for someone that is both intelligent and stupid at the same time.

I can't say that I haven't experienced some of what y'all described, but I always attributed it to getting older and caring les about what people have to say. AKA lack of attention for things I'm not interested in.

I'm not saying that it isn't a real condition. At 18 years of fighter maintenance including tank work, I'm sure I've got a bit of it too. My yearly hearing tests showed no degredation, my scores and baseline at 18 years were just as good as when I hired on and it was perfect then. I just assumed that my experience was getting older as mentioned.

Even if it is real and the Air Force will buy off on it as a work related disability, as a civilian, there's almost zero chance that I could get it documented and accepted to help with my retirement. I will have to keep an ear out for people on the civilian side getting this. If they start accepting it, maybe it would be worth making a claim.

The va will say no to hearing loss if you have nothing in your records before you get out. They will ok tinitus at max 10% though to not have to give you a higher rating for hearing loss.

I passed the hearing test too but had multiple tests failed where they say a word but have background static noise playing. I had no idea what they were saying

And you have to put in for hearing loss as soon as you get out. After 2 years out, you are past the cut off to apply for hearing loss.

Copy your records and make sure for any claims, you have an event that caused the issue.

Mine was an event at the rifle range. I pulled my ear plugs to hear instructions and guys on either side of me started firing. Ever since than, riiinnnngggg.

But, if you have service connected tinitus, you can also claim sleep disorders, anxiety, depression, amd a gew other things as swcondary to tinitus.

She still goes by Angela Benner

The VA in general knows about it. The front line medical personnel that actually work with the veterans, chances are good they will not be aware. You should have seen the deer in the head lights look one doctor had when I handed this to her.

I've made attempts to get the issues in my record on base, at the VA, and at my civilian doctor's office. Whether they put them in there or not, I can't say. I will ask for a copy of my medical records. Apparently, I have to request them from Wright Patterson AFB. They don't do that at ours since the got rid of the paper records.

Spent the last couple days being fairly lazy. But I did get a proof of concept for dry air to my plasma cutter. Going from one storage site to another, then another, then back an forth quite a few times, I finally pieced together what's in the pic;

Yeah, the pic is sideways... @Jim Oaks
When I squirted soapy water on it there was at least a 1/2 dozen leaks. Tomorrow I work, so Wednesday I get to take it all apart and fix the joints.

I got the panels for the dividers finished, the steel angle is mostly drilled but needs the holes chamfered for the fasteners, and the holes un the deck drilled.

The tapered heads of the fasteners threw me off a little. They are about an eighth of an inch too long. The good news is that the machine screws I bought for the deck will work to hold the panels. So, I will need to get shorter screws for the deck and hope they work. If not, I'll need to shorten some screws, extra work I don't want to do.

The L track is on the way and the refrigerator slide is in place and the deck half is installed. If all goes well, I'll be able to reinstall the drawers and get the gear in place so I can move on to doing the preventative maintenance before the trip. The brakes and the coolant is probably going to take the most time.

I’m leaving tomorrow morning and you’re still waiting on material deliveries.

Sheesh!

The trip is in Minnesota?!?!?

I’ve completely screwed up my route planning.

Recalculating…
We’ll meed to meet up at Twisted Sister Pub and caravan from there.

The will give you a rating for hearing loss if you have a nexus and at least 1 failed test, but then they will just give you prescribed hearing aids then reduce your rating to zero. you can get close to 100% with secondaries to tinnitus.
