Need to fix driveline clunk

I thought you could usually get those impact sockets individually at parts stores. Also keep an eye on pawn shops, I go in occasionally and dig from one end to the other just looking, then re-sort it again on my way back to the counter

Also your boot might be occasionally found at the wrecking yard, drop by there occasionally and look around. Hek just price a shaft on your way in and maybe get it included

No. You can't get single 12-point impact sockets in the store. I checked twice now, It's an online item. I don't think I can get it in time anyways from the Internet. As a last resort. I could use my non-impact knurled socket with my impact wrench on low setting. I know you're not supposed to do that.

Most likely won't need my impact wrench. I can still check out Lil Blue's purchase suggestions

I can't work on my truck for the next few days anyway. It's back in the transmission shop.

I haven;t thought of one for years and I hadn;t even thought about why. Years ago while living upstairs over a vacant lot near downtown Nashville I picked up two Snap-on ratchet wrenches laying on the RR tracks on my way to work. One was 1/2 X 9/16 and the other is 5/8 X 3/4. I have used those wrenches for just about everything, they are all 12 point and I can hammer on them all day long, which I have done countless times

Go to a pawn shop and pick out a few 12 point wrenches and hammer on those till they all break, then go get you some more.

You found Snap-On tools next to the RR tracks? Nice score.
I ordered a 12-point 12mm impact socket to have on standby when it's time for me to remove the
driveshaft flange bolts. I think knurl grip socket is better for that splined flange bolt. But I did not find knurl grip impact.

And there is a junkyard in Phoenix that only deals in Ford parts. I'll check there for the accordion boot as one of you suggested. Not much I can do now while my truck is being worked on at the transmission place.

I have also lost stuff on them so I know how it works. At that time I was living not far from downtown and walked a couple blocks to where the vast state and city government parking lots were at and there I'd catch a shuttle eo wherever I was working. Dang man, I had it made then, no worries whatsoever. I was working at the Hermitage Hotel, if you,ve ever seen a movie with the green and black marble tiles on every wall and floor space you know the one it is.
I was remodeling in numerous areas, including the presidential dining, got to eat lunch in the countries only 5 star restaurant of the time, for free. But it was winding down and I got a layoff I was fully aware of but wasn't worried about it.
Got my layoff at noon on Friday along with a paycheck, took off across the capitol and onto Second Ave, stopped at a favorite lunch spot for a sandwich, walked on past Wildhorse and Hard Rock, across the street to the latest brewry was gearing up, talked to the supe, had a job lined up starting next day.
I was actually laughing about the job situation then, "the only reason it took so long to find another job is I had to stop for lunch

If you can't find a drive shaft boot . Might try bicycle inner tube as a temp fix and zip ties.

or a shock boot. I have one covering the steering U joint.

I already tried the shock absorber boot idea. It doesn't fit and I'll be returning it for a refund.
The inner tube idea is a possibility.

I picked up my truck from the transmission shop last week. The worsening 'thump' or 'clunk' is gone.
I assume it was a defect with their transmission rebuild. Or maybe it was a simple 'repair of opportunity' for something else they found along the drive line.

I don't think I should pull the driveshaft right now for preventive maintenance when the clunking is not happening. They still need to address weak or very light shifting and they might to disassemble things again.
