Life is just a long string of stories.
My brother ordered his 1999 Ford Ranger XLT 4 X 4 new from a dealer. It has the 4.0L, auto, tow package, 3.73 LSD, hitch, tow points etc. and is still showroom stock.
Does anyone know if the tow package added a leaf spring or increased the lift somehow?
Thanks.

I’m pretty sure the package just included a hitch and wiring for a four prong connector.

Thanks, I think you are right. I looked at the springs (based on the Federal Sticker) and they are the same as used on the F-150, Explorer etc.

My only remaining question is the height/lift on the truck. My golfing buddy has the same year and model but in 2WD and mine is several inches higher with much more clearance in the wheel wells than his truck. Is that part of going 4WD versus the tow kit?

Prior to my 93 4X (W/ tow package) had an 87 2X (W/O) and the difference was about a foot. The 93 I have to climb up to, the 87 I simply set down in. It may be a 4X4 thing, I never really thought about it too long. The 87 was 1/2T the 93 is 3/4( yours probly is too)

That tow package adds about a hundred pounds to the rear bumper. I went to the 50% off halloween weekend sale @ the wrecking yard last week and saw a receiver ball hitch on one truck, grabbed it and took it out with some other things. That night I realized they had charged me about twice what a new one costs, then noticed it said "trailer hitch". Monday I went back and said if they were gonna charge for a whole hitch I wanted the other half of it, to which they agreed. Four bolts later I was standing there with a hundred pounds of steel on my shoulder, dang that thing was heavy

There might be lift blocks in one and not the other. Between the axle and leafsprings.

Mine is a 3.0 liter with factory tow package and it has a hitch (good one), flat 4 wiring and o/d switch on the shifter. No extra leafs on mine. It needs it too.

A 4X4 will have lift blocks. Thus the height difference. Assuming the tires are the same size between the two. The blocks are no different between a tow package equipped truck and one that doesn’t have it.

@Josh B do you have pictures of your factory tow hitch with the interior connector? I'm in the market for one and I'd prefer stock if I know what I'm looking for.

What's the interior connector? The only connector I know of is the one that's plugged in between the L & R tail lights and has a pigtail coming off that that goes to the trailer connector.
Is that what you need to see?

Yes, that one.
If you have part numbers that's big plus ++++

Glad You asked. Yes I do see attached.
It also comes with very beefy recovery points on the front.

This may, or may not, help. Here is the factory tag attached to the hitch.

Sweet that does thanks! No part number stamped on the hitch? Any photo of the connector (that black square on the 2nd pic appears to be it, but that's a cover?)? Also, nothing inside of the cab interior that's stock related is there?

After rereading your post this may be of more help.
The connector cover says, "POLLAK 12-705 6-24 VOLTS."
