Hi guys - I am putting a post out in prep for running my engine wiring harness. Should be a fairly simple harness being that trans and t-case are manual and no EFI. My initial question is what factors will go into choosing/making a harness? LMC has this in 21/28 circuit variations. Should I base this off what circuit my 1984 harness ran on? Thanks for the read!

that is a nice setup for the money. if your using a custom column setup you can really make it nice. not cheapest out there but its new.

i have used the speedway harnesses more then anything else.. not the best quality wire... but cheap enough that throwing it away and starting over in 10 years is....painless.

these guys are great if your doing all custom. customer service is outstanding.

of course american autowire are awesome to deal with as well..... there is quite a bit out there for freshening up old machines cost effectively.

the uncle tony guy did a video a bit back on universal verse keeping your old stuff....it was worth watching i thought.

aftermarket steering column. they tend to use gm based stuff. so turn signals/hazards and ignition can easily be plug up.

Thank you for verifying. I'll be using my original column - also the uncle tony video was helpful. His take on universal kits was it increases your potential failure points being that you wire into OE plugs. I will try to salvage all I can from OE harness. If not applicable the LMC kit will be my go to. Uncle Tony and Kiwi made a good point that 70% of total loss in these old custom vehicles is fire - often faulty wiring. Investment in quality fire extinguishers is on the honey-do for this build.

i think the points that they made are valid, i do not totally agree as i tend to interface with deutche stuff to eliminate bad connections....(well....on my personal truck wire nuts for disasterzzz)... turn signals and high beams ect are where issues arise. the ford light switches have burned down many vehicles and garages and homes over the years after they get brittle and cooked... and that is where use of the aftermarket column and light switch kits like i mentioned makes it a non issue...

my truck has caught on fire a few times going down the road....and its time for all new.
