Crawlin's Build Thread

I needed to make some repairs so I can go wheeling, and keep the 2.9 chuggin til the motor swap
replaced my water pump, heater hose, lower rad hose, fan clutch, t-stat.
I still need a new fan as mine is cracked all over but I couldnt hand over $123
dollars to the stealership for a new one and the cheapo napa fan didnt fit at all. Ill hit the pick and pull this week.
QUOTE]

If you can't find one, I have a couple laying around for the 2.9.

I got an electric fan if you want it dont remember the size but maybe 14 inches. What motor do you plan on running I remember I think you said a 4.0 but dont remember. we should go hit a trail sometime this week.

I will be using a 4.0, when I find a donor.
yeah lets wheel.:icon_cheers:

well i got a 4.0 and tranny just dont know if i want to get rid of it

Well let me know what you decide. I am looking for the complete package (motor, tranny, harness)to make it easy when wiring and bolting it all up.

My 92 would make a great donor but then I'd lose my dd....I still want to do it though.:icon_rofl:

went and grabbed a fan from an old ranger and some 63" chevys from a 2wd gmc last weekend they are the ones with only 3 leaves and should be nice and soft, going to inboard em when I cut and box the rear frame.

been looking for a engine hoist so I can move the kingpin 60 to my garage and get the bitch rebuilt. I about lost a toe last time I moved it.

little update, I yanked the sliders off, they hung a little low for my liking, then I cut the rocker panels out through the fender, will redo them when I get some materials. Gained alot of clearance.

This is right after making the cuts I had to pull the front fender back in so it didnt hang down/out like that.

also finally fit my blockoff plates on the Doubler and sourced some linkage parts and shifter boots that I will need. I have to clock the shift levers and simce Im a picky bastard Im going to source some 6 gear planetaries and shift fork from a 1354 for my crawl box at the boneyard when the snow and mud dries up.

god your not done with this rig yet :c-n:

;brownbag;Yeah, I know. If the tax man is nice to me I will be able to get most of what I need to swap the axles.

I did score these 6 gear planetaries and shiftfork from a 1997 ranger E1354today, only $23. The Tcase was already out of the truck, so it made for pretty easy work. I threw it up on the tailgate and split the case at the yard saving me about $75 in not having to buy the whole case..:icon_cheers:

Front case welded inside and out, then machined flat for a good seal. the plates were about .150" too tall before would have caused problems.

Need to make room for the doubler, and tired of my driveshaft rubbing the gas tank skid. Tried using an old carbed '84 Bronco II tank I had laying around but the ranger pump assembly wouldnt fit it.

So after I had already cleaned up the old tank and figured out it wasnt going to work:annoyed: I grabbed an '88 efi BII tank (has 3 5/8" opening) from the salvage yard and through on some bedliner material to fight off rust.

yeah manual + 2.9 sucks in the rocks. trying to get it all done before a upcoming trail run at Chinamans in Buena Vista

PLUM: arent you runnin a hybrib M5OD? if so how is that workin out?

I will say one thing, make sure you have the correct hardware with the D.D. Kit, I had to re-tap some holes and source some different countersunk bolts as some that came with my kit were the wrong size. I also know of one other guy that had the same problem.

A guy in my local club has a 2 speed atlas in his ranger and it walks big obstacles while the rest of us struggle up and over them. Maybe this will level the playing field:thefinger:

Its better than the stock 4.0 gearing, but a doubler would make it even more noticeable.

1st gear x LO Tcase x LO Doubler x 4.10 R&P = Final Crawl

Stock 4.0 M50D
3.40 x 2.48 x 2.48 x 4.10 = 85.74:1

Hybrid 4.0/2.5 M50D
3.72 x 2.48 x 2.48 x 4.10 = 93.81:1
