the slo-vo build thread...

Jon where is a good place to get some sheet metal for my half doors? I dont really want to pay $15 for a 1'x2' piece from the hardware store.

im not sure of anywhere in evansville, here in owensboro i usually get my stuff from magnum welding out 60 east

i would go with 10g, thats what i used on mine and it kept the door pretty solid but its still light and easy to work with.

i just woke up, had those 2 teeth pulled this morning. wasnt too bad i dont remember shit they knocked me out pulled them and was gone in 20 minutes

Call around to your local steel distributors. Some places custom cut steel for customers, and sell the remnants. There is a place down the street from my work, that sells remnants for SUPER cheap! It's my toy store:icon_bounceblue:

There is a place here I get my tube and angle from. Never seen any sheet there though. I'll check though. Thanks.

Well.... I just finished reading the thread from page one... Ha ha, my eyes are tired! Great thread Jon! Your build has been inspiring as well as very influential to my build. Thanks for all the great ideas, and great work:icon_thumby:

You're welcome man. I won't lie.... it took me a few days, but was well worth it. My tube bed is starting to look much like yours. I won't be a total poser though, I promise. Ha ha

lol yea there is a WHOLE lot of bs in here but hell it keep me motivated....when i start seeing a few pages of junk its time to get something done

did you ever get the D44 assembly installed? I'm very interested in how well that stuff works out.

as far as sheetmetal might wanna check a local hvac shop. I know we have a ton's of sheetmetal in stock. mostly galv. but alot of raw steel we stock raw steel from 30 ga. to 1/8 inch. and have alot of scrap's that i'm sure we would give away if it were goin to good use.

I used 22ga sheetmetal for my half doors, plenty rigid. Also looking forward to seeing that D44 under there.

all the d44 stuff is just sitting in the garage, just been alot of shit going on so ive been a little on the broke side trying to keep up with the mortgage and a few other bills...

and actually, im getting very very tempted to go ahead and toss the 44 ttb under the expo and work on it over the summer and wheel the ranger as is, then go ahead and SAS the ranger...ive been trying to push it off for a while but i believe its about time to do it

not really sure on the details yet, but im sure ill have something up my sleeve

yes.. sas the ranger.

i like the ttb stuff it interests me, but i also have 2 ttb vehicles sitting here...and logically with the level id like to be in the ranger its going to eventually need a solid axle.

too bad i missed a great set of axles a few weeks back but oh well, if i just happen to magically stumble upon a cheep 60 thats the way ill go otherwise it will be a 44 but who knows ive got a while to look

kingpin 60 up front.. do it right!
