Project El Taco...1990 BII

Id be a liar if I said yours didnt have any influence on mine... I think yours are a bit wider though :D

bah its just a rocker. you dont get out on trials without body damage. my lwb samurai has 1/4 angle bolted to my rockers and countless repairs to the quarters when it was still on the road. now its just another story to tell

You da man

Out F'N Standing. What a great project and write up. Just what I needed. I bought me a 2001 Ranger 4x4 4.0 sohc after it rolled over. Wanted to swap out into my 89 B2. Your info is the best ( only ) that I have seen. Got my doner ranger for $900. Complete minus what fell off on roll over. Thanks Brutha!:icon_bounceblue:

WOW! I cant believe I never saw this thread before.

I did a SOHC / OBDI / 4r55e swap in my 95 Explorer about a year ago (EDIT: official start-up date was 1/23/10). I could have helped if I had seen this thread before now. Its nice to see that there are more people doing this. Your only the 3rd person I can confirm that got it to run. :icon_thumby: (Me and Brett from Explorerforums, being the other 2) I never took the time to do a write-up.

How's it run? I've been using mine as a daily driver since I finished the swap. I've logged over 25k miles on mine.

You said OBDI? Did you mean OBDII? I know 95's were EEC-V/OBDII....

Maybe im just confused...

Anyway, runs great... I have a small hesitation mid-throttle, But I dont attribute that to the ECU on this engine, it didnt do that when I first got it running... Still havent figured it out though... Its not terrible, but it does get kind of annoying... Either way, the engine rips in a B2, its like a V8, and idles smoother than my 05 3.0 ranger...

95 Explorers engines were EEC-IV (60 pin computer), the body was technically OBD-II.

Wow, learn something new everyday... I was under the impression RBV's went OBDII in 95...

Anyway, you should post a build thread, or some pictures or something, that would be wicked...

What computer are you using? Do you experience any hesitations or anything, or does yours run great? Mine ran great til I let it sit for a month and then it started this hesitation garbage. About 1600-1800 and half or so throttle it wants to fall on its face, but runs like a raped ape in every other way...Ive changed out the ECU, MAF, CLT, EDIS, checked for vacuum leaks, checked the FPR... and Im tempted to throw a new coil pack on there... What style MAF sensor are you using?

I'll have to get some pics. I pulled the trans today after breaking the intermediate band. So its not going anywhere till I pick up the 96 Ex from my uncles house and swap the trans.

I had an issue with a loss of power/ stumble around 2k. I think I was getting very light detonation. Started running 93 octane, hasnt happened since.

Its run anywhere between ok and great, but ive run a few combos.

Right now Im running:
95 ecc-iv comp
95 aftermarket mass air - calibrated for 24# injectors
01 Sohc stock injectors
95 air filter box
01 air intake tube modified for 95 IAT sensor
95 Crank position sensor
95 EDIS
97 return style fuel system
01 coolant temp sender and matching 01 gauge
knock sensor is tossed in the spare parts bin
95 cruise control w/ 01 cable (yes the cruise works)
95 IAC (had to silicone onto intake, the 95 wont seal right to the 01 intake.)
95 TPS (I dont know if they are the same or not, didnt take the chance)
95 DPFE sensor
01 CMP (I still have a problem here, you dont have that problem. 90 didnt have a CMP)
01 manifolds (had to mate the 95 and 01 y-pipes to make 1 without cats)
95 cats and exhaust
95 ECT sensor
95 motor mounts and brackets

Thats all I can think of off the top of my head.

I'll bring my camera to work tomorrow. I have the trans out of the truck right now. I broke the intermediate band.

...95 IAC (had to silicone onto intake, the 95 wont seal right to the 01 intake.)...
01 CMP (I still have a problem here, you dont have that problem. 90 didnt have a CMP)...

My high idle problem was caused by air Bypassing the IAC cause of the casting in the IAC and the Poly intake... All I did to fix it was to make a plate under the IAC with 2 holes to seal it right up...

And as far as the CMP (cam sensor?) goes, cant you just plug it in right on the VC? Something tells me ford didnt mess with the signal between the two setups, but I could be wrong...

I just fill the holes in the IAC with silcone (slight overfill) and let it dry. then installed. I was gonna make a plate, but I didnt have any shim stock and the machine shop was at work was locked up for the night. So silicone it was!

I tried the valve cover CMP. It sends a different signal. It runs good without it. But it still sets a check engine light under 1000 RPM.

Heres some pics.
