Project 4x4 Commuter Mazda

One of the lower shock bolts on my front Bilsteins rattled loose on a long stretch of road while at Moon-Rocks. Luckily the shock didn't get damaged and a friend of mine pointed it out before it did.

So I welded on new lower mounts :icon_welder. The new mounts put the shocks at a better angle in relation to the James Duff coil bucket top shock mounts, and puts them at perpendicular to the frame. Also, now the shocks have more up travel, and utilize more down travel for when the suspension is at full droop. Before the shock almost bottomed out at full compression, and had 3" of down travel at full droop. But now it has plenty of up travel, and comes to 1.5" left of down travel when the suspension is at full droop. Long story short a shock that was too long, is now just about perfectly suited for the situation. All with less binding angles at either extreme.

Also, gonna go look at, and hopefully pick up 6 almost new BFG KM2's tomorrow after school, meaning I'll be ordering wheels here pretty quick.

Two are literally brand new, never mounted and never seen road. The other four are basically new too, minus maybe 1% of tread. Notice the rack rash aquired at Moon-Rocks over the weekend in pic 1 & 3. Also notice the chevy D44 my dad is building for his CJ-5 (his goal is more beef and highsteer). 4wheel runs in the family....granpa even had a modded out jeep when my dad was my age.

Next is to order wheels and new lugnuts (mine are falling apart). And start saving for gears, which I plan on having by summer time if all goes well.

Wheels--->Straps--->Radflow bumps--->Rock Lights--->4.56 Gears. Done. Jk lots of little stuff in bewteen but its getting close to being DONE. Give me a year.

nice, finally bigger tires......lol. i think it's gonna look a lot better (not that it doesnt look good now)

why 6? that just the deal you got?

are you mounting them before you get new wheels?

The guy I bought from had six from his prerunner, and didn't want to sell me just 4, so I ended up with a set plus two spares....I'll get alot of miles out of them this way :icon_thumby: I didn't go hunting for 6 tires, thats just what I ended up with...can't argue with that lol.

No, I'm waiting till i have some new wheels before mounting them...I'll order today or tomorrow. Maybe by next week it will all be on the truck.

Yes hopefully. I want to TRY and buy a D35 pig already setup with 4.56's....If not I want to at least buy a second D35, have it regeared, then swap it and my locker in and sell my old one (that way there is less down time). Let me know if anybody you know is selling a stock one for cheap, or a setup one for around $250 (is that a fair price?).

Plus I need to start looking for a Ford Explorer 8.8 with discs, 8.8 gears (new or used), perches, brakes, master install kit, shock brackets and emergency parking brake cable stuff.

This shits expensive ha.

check the classifieds, there's a guy selling 4.56's for a d35&8.8 with master install kits for both (maybe only one actually, i dont remember) for $400 i think

I see, its a little soon though :icon_confused: Not done payin for the tire wheel combo lol. $400 is a heckuva deal though.

Whats the word on Motive/Genuine brand gears?

I lean towards Yukon products.

Its one of those deals I shouldn't pass up, but I'm gonna have to for now. Lots of gear sets and axles make their way through the TRS forums.

bad timing! give two months and i'd buy them b/c thats a deal that I may never come across again. oh well :dunno:

i hate things like that... i came across a warn m800, proved to work for $250... but it was when tuition was due. still kicking myself

I have a feeling I'm going to be kicking myself pretty bad over this deal about the gears. $400? I mean come on, you cannot beat that!

I just had part of my tuition bill due, and lets say between that, tires, and wheels I'm bled out (I don't believe in credit cards so I actually pay it all out of pocket). I hate owing people money...

I figure between $1000-$1500 for gears, master install kits, labor, 31 spline 8.8 locker, 31 spline explorer 8.8, new brakes, brake lines, perches, shock mounts, gear oil etc etc.....it will probably end up being more, but I hope to get as much as I can used (hell a sweet deal would be a used 8.8 that is all setup for a ranger with gears and a locker than someone is swapping out....I'd save alot of money if I could come across a deal like that).
