That's what I figured haha.

Called the yard that has the warranties on their engines. Didn't have any 3.0's at the moment, just sold one at the end of Dec. Said it went for ~500. My guestimation wasn't too far off.

Called another yard. They said everything is on a case by case basis. They may have one pulled already, or it may still be in the vehicle. I asked him about a waranty and it didn't sound like they have a policy in place. I told the guy I'll just have to come out and talk to them in person. He said they go for ~300 bucks. I'm hoping to find one in their yard that i can hear run, let them pull it, and take it home.

Thought about using a Taurus 3.0L?? Same motor, but might be cheaper due to availability...

I thought about it, but I dunno. I know I could swap all of my ranger specific 3.0 stuff (wiring harness, intake, whatever is different) onto the taurus motor. I REALLY just want to pick it up, and drop it in. I hope to get to the yard on Tuesday morning. We'll see what I find.

Made a little progress today. I cut out my bent ass crossmember that's in front of the steering. Removed some A/C crap from the engine bay, got the springs and bumpstops out, and the truck is supported by the frame. Coil buckets are ready for a little modding. Gonna try and reduce the coil bow issues I've been having.

not today. I'll document the coil bucket modification. Its crazy how much the stock buckets angle the coils out.

Yeah, I've been debating whether or not to design a pivoting or "floating" coil bucket design so the coil will always b straight...

Hmm, that's interesting. Like an inverted shackle if you will? That would work while the coil is in compression but would be unstable when the coil starts to stretch and goes into tension.

Think of it more like a rear shock pivoting on the top shock bolt. It's allowed to move forward and backward, but not side to side. The coil would also have additional support on the inside of the coil from a cylindrical shape, most likely a 4 inch or so pipe to keep the middle from "popping out" much like a slinky...

ahh, I gotcha. Like what I said earlier but reducing the lever arm to 0. It would pivot rather than swing.

I'm not getting that crazy with it. I'll probably just notch the bucket, pound the top down so its more parallel with the ground, and weld it up.

Yours are probably just bent outta wack like mine were.... It's scary how much they flex! I had to hammer/pry mine back down and weld gussets up the backsides after they tore, then weld more in later....

I've jumped it with the JD buckets that are on it now with lil to no issue!

3.5" Wildhorses EB springs.


I'm pretty sure the buckets are like this from the factory. I looked at a full size that still had them installed and it kicked the coils out a bit.

I'm not sure if I want to eliminate the coil bow 100%, since when one side of the axle stuffs, it corrects itself, but I'll take quite a bit out, then reinforce.
