it's a mistake that's too easy to make,and very frustrating once you've found out what you did.

That's for sure, that's why in my build thread when I was installing the shackles you'll noticed I laid them out on the ground behind the truck. I stared at them for about 5 minutes to quadruple check they were right before I finally committed and bolted them up.

here's how i go about fitting the tub together.as stated before,i tack it at the flange end then work it around till i get to the other side.

once it's all tacked,i get to dolly it out some more before finishing the welds.

next in line is a custom plywood air dam.

I am interested in seeing what you do about this front spoiler/splitter/lip/air dam or what ever you wish to call it. when I saw the pics of the hood on with the hinges I thought to myself "now what's he gonna come up with to hide those hinges."

You should just do the whole body out of it, like this guy.

I thought that was discussed a few pages back and the wood car was going to be saved for the twin big-block morgan.

i'm working on the buck for that right now.

and incedentally,the stock hood hinges stuck out 6'' in front of the grille.the ones i'm using are behind the grille.

6 inches in front of the grille! Where the heck did they hide them at? Looking at pictures of one of these stock I can't see where there would have been room for that unless they were behind the front bumper.

Guess these hinges fit better than I realized. Which there's also more metal to be put up there on the front so I guess I should have just waited and let the master work.

behind the front bumper is exactly where they were.


the bumper tilted up with the hood...i'll see if i can get a pic of the original hinges.

I'd be interested if you find them. But it'll have to wait till tomorrow afternoon to see them. I got to get up at 4 am to head to work, that's in about 6 hours for all you not on the east coast. And won't be back home till ~9pm thanks to school . And I still got to write a speech for one class sometime between now and 5pm tomorrow. I hate school, but if I'm going to get out of my dead end job then I need it. At least I'm passing the Trig class so far, but I'd rather be working on the truck. I think I already said this but school sucks.

theres the hinge points right behind the bumperettes.

the holes in the original grille are for them to pass through.

and here's how the grille sat in relation to the bumper.that's about 6'' from the grille to the hinge pivot point.i was concerned about how i would deal with this from the start....i was pretty sure i didn't want to use the bumper.

here's what i've come up with so far.i don't want it to come across as being too rice,but there's a lot of space to fill and an air dam seems to fit best.

in this profile shot you can see how the metal will be shaped,following the contour of the hood before kicking out at the bottom.

unfortunately,i need to have a front licence plate,so a recess will be incorporated into the airdam.to get an idea of scale....and just how small this car is,that recess is just a normal 12x6 licence plate size,but it takes up a huge proportion of the airdam.

that is NOT me nor my car... i found that pic a long time ago... it showed up after the first fast and furious movie i think, apparently this kid drove around his town for like 3 hours before getting pulled over, and him being forced to remove all the cardboard before being released

air dams aren't rice dude... the 69 boss 429 has an airdam...
