seriously, what happened here? i was driving down a snow covered street in 4 high when it popped, clunked and ground to a halt. neither front or rear output would do anything, and the lever was all bound up. i wasnt even beating on it! :bawling: oh well, i tossed my spare in there and its been fine since.

i would suspect a worn chain,at road speeds with a light load it can jump around and catch on the sprocket.the sudden stop pulls the output over hard enough to bust the housing.

i fixed a 208 that did the same thing-it was just being driven out the owners driveway in 4hi.i'll see if i can find the pic.

you'll notice it's the input end that broke on this one,but the circumstances sound the same.

can't wait for this to happen to me! been driving an hour round trip to work every day for the past couple months with my t-case in locked 4 hi (with a plate to keep the keyway from moving) since my whole electronic 4x4 system took a dump! project truck is in the garage so will be replacing with manual t case soon... will post pics when mine grenades!

My buddy's 1350 did the exact same thing as yours did.

i had a 1350 that broke in the same place, but the circumstances were different.on mine i'd already broken the rear driveshaft and was beating it on the front only.it put so much strain on the chain it pulled the rear output over and busted the housing.

Well...we went out wheeling, he drove it home and went to pull the tranny to replace the clutch a couple days later and found it looking like that. Drove it at highway speeds and everything....didn't make a noise.

My friend just had customer with an F150 at his transmission shop break the T-case on the trans side as well. His also broke the trans case though. The transmission was bad and he towed it from Evanston, WY to Salt Lake for my friend to fix it. So what caused this expensive mistake? Towing it in Drive.

That's a first that I've seen that happen. It's a good thing you had a spare sitting.

I had the same thing happen to one of my 13-50s. I broke the rear output shaft clean off. Removed the rear driveshaft to get it home. (Front wheel drive burnouts are fun...in a Ranger)

I drove it around for a few days, until I found another STX case. I guess it couldn't take the front wheel drive beating it got, and blew the case apart, just like yours.

same thing happened on my buddys 1350, he was drivin the trruck in 2wd mind u and goin down the road, and his trans starts to shift hard and notice the smell of gear oil. so he gets it home looks under for a leak and notices a crack from on side of the case to the other, front to back

must be a common way for the 1350 to bite the dust lol
