Gt-12

first off let me start by saying that you are my idol..lol I've wanted to stuff one of those v-12 into a tiny car for a long time. second you have deffenately giving me some inspiration to start my winter project now i just need to find the parts. But here is my question on your front suspension, how well is the front lower control arm attached to the engine and how well will this hold once the car is going down the road. i see where you had to rework the arm but i wasn't sure if it was still attached the same way or if you had changed anything. I noticed where you mounted the engine pretty rigid. i know many people have mounted all sorts of things to the block but it is also aluminum. I guess my concern is if you smash the gas and the motor tweaks just a little is that going to send you spinning into a ditch?

Again sweet build just interested to hear your thoughts on this. and if you had not, then brought some light to a subject.

the torque effect from the engine was a bit of a concern with the suspension arm bolted there, but some basic calculations determined that the engine wouldn't move enough for it to be a concern.

that's all a moot point now, anyway as when i reworked the lower arms they were short enough to attach them to the frame rail.

of course, with this thing smashing the gas has a good chance of sending me into the ditch regardless of how the suspension is mounted:D

good point..lol i do remeber reading now where you had moved the lower arms. a few more questions for you, just some thoughts i have had when thinking about putting a huge engine in something tiny. how well do you think the weight transfer will be? do you think enough weight will be over the rears to actually give a launch or will it be an ease into it slow if you wanna go thing. one would think with the short wheel base and length of motor and trans it would be a fairly even compared to say a 2 wheel ranger with v8.

There's no weight to transfer. It'll either smoke em or wheelie.

:icon_rofl:

well,i don't expect a wheelie,but i'm sure some smoke will be involved:D.

while i haven't actually weighed anything, the jag rear is fairly heavy, and with the fuel tank and the battery behind the axle,as well as most of the engine/trans behind the front axle i'm hoping i'll get some grip.i don't figure it'll be smoking the tires just pulling away from a stop, but any weight transfer involving suspension action won't happen.

there's just too little suspension travel available, plus the c.g. will be right about in line with the wheel c/l.

roll center will be about 5'' above ground level, giving a reasonable transfer in cornering.i'll use the car for a bit before deciding if sway bars will be needed,i already know where they'll mount if i decide to use them.

dude sweet..... i like it and it sounds cool. and thanks for the thoughts..... but keep it goin and right on. i like it. and you have already done one vehicle for wheelies....y not another

i like the rockers looks like it is coming along nice. Due to a minor set back such as a job i haven't been able to read up lol.:D

i hate it when jobs get in the way of the good stuff.

oh,well....i guess we have to pay for things somehow.

Indeed. Having the money from jobs makes the good stuff that much better.

having the money without the bother of the job would be better yet.

somehow,i don't see that happening to me any time soon.

Gonna win the lottery one of the days and build myself a dream shop. Yep, definitely gonna happen, even though I don't even buy tickets.

On second thought you may be right.

thats exactly what i want to do as well except i also dont buy the tickets haha

so, i haven't been making the big push on this thing that i had hoped for this past week....my little trip seems to have taken a bit of time to recover from,plus i've had other work to get out of the way,such as building a quad trailer and today i had to do the clutch on the big truck.but enough of the excuses....here's what has been happening;

gt6001-56.jpg

i cut the pinch welds from the hood....this is going to be a bigger job than i had originally figured on,because of my old friend rusty.

gt6002-50.jpg

what looks like simple surface rust here is actually a drastic thinning of the base metal, even perforation,so i can't just weld the cuts together.what i need to do now is cut about a 1 1/2'' wide section out of the top of the fender and weld in new metal, more than doubling the work i was expecting in this area.

gt6003-49.jpg

i got the left side rocker insert built, but not yet installed.getting these things to fit right is several hours a side,it turns out,but that's all part of the game.

gt6004-32.jpg

i've got the metal rough cut from the rocker area to get on with the fitting,so i'm on the right track.

gt6005-31.jpg

something that i really need to get on with is finishing the left header....it's close, but i need to brace all the sections so i can pull it from the motor without it losing it's shape, then i can get the secondaries and collector done.at that point i can fire up the motor again and see what it sounds like with the sidepipes hooked up.
