This thing is gonna be so damn cool...

This thing is going to be sick.

What color will you be painting it?

Are you going to sandblast the frame and repaint it?

i hope so-i'm going for the 'old school hot rod with a modern twist' look.it's not for racing or anything,so looking cool is about it's only purpose in life.

sweet...those rims would look good on that.:icon_thumby:

it's going to be the brightest red i can find with a double white stripe.i call the color 'arrest me red'.
there will be little left of the original frame when im done, and it's in pretty good shape.what you are seeing in the photos is light surface rust,so i think i can get away with jut hitting it with a wire brush....but you never know.if it happens to be ready around the time i'm sandblasting the ranger frame,i'll bring this along at the same time.

time to deal with the bulge...

to cover the big opening in the front i'll have to build a panel from scratch.

brother, I would do something to raise it just a little higher, just so you dont get rattle from the hood being too close to the covers.

this is just the rough concept stage,of course.i'll give it about 3/8'' clearance.i don't want too much, but everything will be mounted tight enough that i think that will keep it from contacting.

The hood looks good, the grinder however should have a guard on.

grinder guard.....:icon_confused:

ok...a short diatribe on grinder guards.i'll start by saying to martin-i really appreciate your input on this thread.and appreciate your concern for my safety.
now,i spent the better part of twenty years in the metal fab trade, and happened to have this discussion with the workers compensation board.the ruling was that any guard on a machine that hindered it's normal use was a hazard in itself.they looked at how we were using grinders as cutting tools, sanding tools, wire brushes,as well as face surface grinders.it was determined that the only appropriate use of the supplied guard was with surface grinding.in all other uses it hindered operation in a way that made the tool more dangerous.
a certain amount of skill and training were assumed to be had by the operator of the tool, and responsibility for how it was used(never-ever use a cutoff wheel with the grinder pushing-always make sure that the rotation is pulling the grinder.never get any part of your body in the plane of rotation of the disk.always keep a firm and controlled hold on the tool)i'm amased by how often i see the first of these rules broken on t.v.-it makes me cringe just watching it,knowing how the grinder can push and bind without any warning, and have the disk break up throwing bits around at high velocity.

so i guess what it saying is that the guards on a machine are not as important as keeping in mind the possible ways that the machine could hurt you....all the time you are using it,without fail.as i've said before in this thread when i had a close call with a piece of equipment,it's the one time you are not paying attention to the danger that something gets you.

there...done.

The main reason I mention the guard is because most people who look at threads like this do not have years of experience in fabrication or proper instruction in the use of dangerous tools. You can buy angle grinders so cheaply now that anybody can afford one. The cheap ones are just as dangerous as the heavier ones, perhaps more so. Anyway, enough about dangerous tools, back to stuffing that quart into that pint pot.
