My idea of a Shelby Ranger if there would have been one.

Damn people know how to mess a good thing...I'm not a fan of GM cars either but yeah the GNX and MC SS were some sweet rides!! I liked the black and gold IROCs too!! IMO GM had the better looking pick of cars back in the day. .. Seems Ford only had the Mustang GT and Escort GT that were smooth at least to a teen in school... I think Ford has finally out done GM with the smoothness of their line up.. I just hope they don't eff up the Ranger like Chevy did the S10 switch to a Colorado... That thing is just EFFIN UGLY.. Looks like a Toyota reject.... I don't how one could be made to look smooth as a street version... Not even sure one could look that great on a 4X4 configuration... Oh here is a tad of info I remember reading about the 1986 GNX from Motor Trend.. (I was 16 at the time) The GNX was the fastest American production car ever.. However a freightliner Rig with a certain gear ratio and a I think a Caterpillar 3408 Turbo diesel engine would smoke it on top end!
How's that for Truckin!!!???

Wow, someone else knows about the escort GT!!! They looked like mini fox bodys/ SVO mustangs to me. I learnd how to drive a stick shift in our 87 escort GT that we bought brand new!! It was silver with black trim on the bottom, and a moonroof. We put over 280k on that, and it was all origional!! We sold it to a guy that was putting almost 30k a year on it, and he sold it with 350k, and didnt have any problems with that either!

Ahhh, good times!!!

I got all the info I need... except your address... I get it out to you here soon... I'll PM you for your address when I have a chance to mail it out... She is still running rich but I haven't changed out the O2 yet.. Running a little short on cash...

Wicked!

Yeah the cash flow definitely affects the advancement of the project.

When I was driving truck across this USA of ours, I had a Yellow Kenworth T800L, with a 14lt Detroit Diesel Turned up to 650hp, backed by a Rockwell/Fuller 18 speed, and behind that a Allison Overdrive, and sitting on 24.5 tall rubber, that truck only reg 75mph on the speedo, but doing some math, and having a Tenn State Trooper as a Uncle, the truck running with a empty 53 foot trailer would top out at 175mph on flat ground.

My boss at the time took me and it, plus my uncle to the salt flats, they had a special built 13 letter corn binder there that was suppose to be the fastest Diesel, My truck beat him by 6 mph,, but scared the fire out of me, so I didn't run the other way to make it official, the front end of the truck got to shaking too bad.

but there where severial times when I was heading west to the coast, that I would open it up out there on the flat lands going into the triple digits.

Now that gives truckin a whole new name!!

Well today we drove the Ranger to a car show... The guy directing traffic asked if we were showing or lookin... We were only lookin but to me it was a huge compliment to be asked which. Oh and he said that is one sharp truck.. If she was cleaned up and I had 20 bucks to spare I would have entered her... Did see some Shelby Stangs there.. I wish I had known about the snakes on the late models.. I would have used those instead of the gold decal cobras... Gonna get one for the tail gate!!!! I went over to the shop and buffed on it some... Maybe next weekend if I get the O2 I will do the burn out... My buddy that owns the shop where I am working on it, His mother has been really sick passed away last Saturday so today was the first time he has ridden in it since I put it on the road... I wanna make sure he is up to the burn out since I am gonna do it on the concrete pad in front of the shop...

Well I though I was going to have good news to share today.. I took the O2 out and soaked it in a little Sea Foam.. Let it dry put it in and BAM! She was bouncing around on the voltage! she went into closed loop!!! Stayed there!!!! I cleared the codes and scanned it again.. came back code 111 No codes present!!!! I finished up polishing her and checked it again. Same thing went closed and had good voltage... Went for a drive for a bit and CEL came on went off, came on... Now it's got code 172 not switching and running lean... It won't go over 100 MV.... I'll go get a new O2 Friday and see what it does....

DANG that is one super nice truck, I'll be glad when I can find something to rip the engine out of to make mine in to a little hot rod.

Mind if I ask some questions about paint?, if I lay down a base coat of white, and wet/block sand it, will that hurt when I go and lay down a "candy" coat of blue paint?, and if I block/wet sand it, will that hurt to lay down the clear coat ??

OR should I just lay the white, then lay the "candy" over it, then lay the clear, then block/wet sand ???

Thanks Robert! Lay all the basecoat down, Clear it then block it with 2K and buff it... Base isn't designed to be sanded.. That's not to say it can't be.. I've sanded trash out before in the middle of painting but It would be an over kill to wet sand the whole thing... Most stuff you can bury it in clear...

The reason I asked, is because part of the Base coat is going to be white strips, I'll lay down the Base, then tape off what I want to be the white strips( think wide stripes offset to the passenger side) then I'm going to tape off a old style flame job on it, BUT part of the white strip is also going to be painted with the flame, I was thinking of laying down about 3 coats of transparent blue, then pull the tape from the flame and then lay down another 3 to 4 coats of the transparent blue, but have all of the white strip taped off so the flame on it wont get darker, then shoot a nice thick clear coat.

I seen this done when I went back to school and was drafting, they took us on a tour of the other classe's, the paint job looked good, but you could "feel" the lines in it.

You have to bury the lines in clear then block sand it flat.. Same concept as clearing over a Harley Davidson decal on the fuel tank...

Thanks ST! You got a damn good Base truck to do something awesome with. Plus you got the 2.3 Turbo motor!! Now come up with a theme and build it!!
I had a thought this morning for some reason.. What if Bat Man's bat mobile had been a Ranger?? How would it look? Did see a 78 or so Trans Am once with the eagle removed and the Bat emblem in it's place... Your Truck is a lot cleaner than mine was! Now build it Daniel son!

Got the factory books today for the Ranger.. Not the books I was hoping for but a lot of good info. One is on the engine and the other is on electrical and vac trouble shooting on Explorers.. If anyone needs some info hit me up and I'll look it up...
