ranger refit/build thread

SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET!!:icon_thumby:
SVT

once i get the drivetrain all set up,i'll pull the cab off and get some pics of the frame with the whole mess exposed.that will either clear up some things or cause more confusion.

hell,i'm confused, and i built the thing(of course,my confusion has nothing to do with the truck...)

Ok....Now the shft linkage.....of everything.....

that's not in yet-you'll just have to wait till i build it.not using the old stuff,it was too crude and worn out.

Not that its needed or necessary, but I wonder how many I could get in my crew cab dually:icon_confused: :dunno: :icon_idea:

one of the areas that was a problem before on the truck was the mount for the rear of the auxillary transmissions.a crossmember was made that went under the trans, but needed to kick up to clear the driveshaft.there wasn't enough clearance to the shaft, and it was a pain to do service on the trans,so it was time for a redesign.

the plan now is to have the crossmember above the trans, with the trans hung under it.
this is the start of the mount.

a little work with the holesaw to start the shaping.

refit004-1.jpg

and trimmed to shape.

bushing tube fitted.

welded and gusseted...the bushing is above it,i'm using a leaf spring bushing to mount it.

refit006.jpg

the crossmember is a simple affair, just a piece of 6'' channel cut to profile.

refit001-3.jpg

the crossmember and mount.just need to weld some mounting flanges to the ends of the crossmember-it bolts to the inside of the frame rail.

and heres the whole thing at work.the mount bolts need to be replaced(i just tossed in what i had for now)but you can see that the trans can be easilly dropped without removing the crossmember now, also there is no intrusion into the space reserved for the rear driveshaft.

As always,great work man!
Seeing that edge with the dual scale brings back fond memoreys...lol.

for those not familliar with it,that's called a circumference rule.the top scale is inches, line up a measurement with the bottom scale, that's the circumference for that diameter-makes for quick figuring on laying out cylinders.
there's also a chart on the back for determining the volume of cylinders of different dimentions.
