Help guys

I am right in the middle of this fixing a u-joint its an 88 4x4 I got it down to removing the spindle from the steering knuckle I took a heavy duty plastic hammer taped all around it wont budge. How do you get it off? I need to fix the axle u-joint

sometimes these spindles are really REALLY seized on!
If it won't break free with some 'liquid wrench' and sitting for a bit, then you may have to buy some tools. There is a tools that threads onto the end of the spindle and allows a slide hammer to thread onto it. using a slide hammer, it took me about an hour to 'beat' the right spindle off. The left came off with a few wacks. You might be able to 'loan' these tools from your local jobber parts store.

P.S. in for a penny in for a pound.....as 'they' say! If you are going this far to do the front axle u-joints, this is a GOOD TIME to replace the spindle needle bearings and seal. Check the Tech Libary for more info on doing this. - good luck!

although there is a tool that makes this pretty easy with a slide hammer.....

Get a 2x4, and a good sledge hammer. Beat it in all directions, it'll come loose.

I think the needle bearing may be shot it has a lot of slack in the axle when you turn it over it makes a rough grinding sound

did you get things all back together?

Thanks for asking :icon_thumby:

Yes got all back together the hard part was getting the spindle off the steering knucle. The next tough deal was removing the u-joint from the axle had to use a heavy duty vice and a 6 foot box tubing leg off my engine puller to press out the u-joint. The spindle seal was hard as well distroyed one the next one took a PVC pipe and tapped on the plastic thrust washer got it on without bending it up. I do appreciate your help and the others on all my posts without it this would be a hard one to fix on my first time at this
