My little Iron Ranger {Part 2}

I like the picture of the LMC catalog under your 9" on like, page 8 or something. At least they've got the stuff we need. NICE build.

Thanks!

Yes they have everything that one may need for their ranger build. I also bought a bug shield from them 2 years ago and it arrived 2 weeks later in a crumpled box and a big piece cracked out of it.

Did I return it? Nope. Just made it work.

I don't know if it was from shipping itself or what, but the stuff I bought from them after that came in pretty quickly and neat. Shipping is $$$ though.

Cam's installed, degreed, and measured for new pushrods. Found out what happens when a non- HO cam is used with an HO computer. One of the chambers wasn't sooted like the other 3. It was on the lean side, but the piston and valves are still OK.

I have a feeling that my tires are going to be "disposable".....

Well, some more pics are in order. First is my air box cut out the make room for the valve cover when we finally drop the body 1 1/2". I made extra room so that the breather has room to.......uh.......breathe.

This has been, by far, the hardest thing I've done to the ranger. Hard to work with sheet metal, much less when I have to weld it. The openning is so awkward that I almost lost it!!

And a picture of my brand new waterpump.

And my new battery relocation kit from Summit Racing. Putting the battery in the box and sacrificing the factory tray for my cold air intake filter.

Pushrods are ordered and I believe (I hope) that I have everything I need to put it back together.........correctly..............which is why my brother has been putting the motor back together. He's a lot better at it than I am.

looooooking goooood!!!

looooooking goooood!!!

Thank you, sir!!

Some more things done.

I welded the center core support back on (had to cut it out in order to remove the cam)

And a nice, clear shot of the once-flat-tappet-now roller valvetrain. Even though the F-150 from where the block came from wasn't roller, the block was already tapped to accept the spider tray. Sweetness!

And I welded up my air box mod. I reeeeeeeeeeally hate sheet metal:annoyed:, but at least it's done and the "inside" is painted.

Much more to do tommorrow, mainly with swapping the transmissions and dropping the cab. We'll see how far I really get. After all, it did snow ALL DAY TODAY! Bummer.

Snowed!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I sweated thru 2 changes of t-shirts working on the A/C box & got a sun-tan watering the grass!!!!!

Great pics in case I ever wanna make the '36 into a 4 X 4 wanna-be......

Your truck is coming along nice! I hear ya on the snow. We had about 6" on the ground this morning. It's some bullish I'll tell ya. 80* one week, snowing the next!

At least all traces of it are gone now!

Got the tranny/bellhousing installed(hopefully for the last time). Gonna reinstall the driveshaft and shifter, silicon the air box mod into place, and drop the cab.

Pushrods will be here Monday and hopefully be able to start it up on the weekend(My brother and I have opposite work scheduals and I'm not gonna start it myself!)

Well, here's the tranny installed:

There's some leak issues on this one, but I'm hoping a few miles of Bars Stop Leak will plug up the holes.

And my brother and I dropped the cab last night. Only clearance issue is one of my exhaust dumps is a little over 1/2" away from the cab's heat shield, but I should be OK.

The pushrods came in today, so my brother will be putting the motor back together. I gotta find a good spot and mount the battery box in the bed. Then after the engine is all put back together, I can drill out the spot weld holding on the battery tray and convert that little valueable space into the air cone's new home.

Mount the battery on the passenger side. For weight / traction reasons. Good luck on your battery tray, mine was a lil biatch coming out. Oh, and nice waterpump hardware btw.

what heads and what valve train are you using?

i prefer trend pushrods, is that what you used or did ya run the tf?

generally unless you have some compression and heads a 302 isnt really huge on the low end unless its a stroker. i guess i need to read the 7-11 to get the details to where your at.

why dont you cut up and mod the core support for more flow? you skills would make most jealous ya know. cant wait to see it frying tires!

well i read through it. bummer too. surprised with all the catches made on other items no one asked about the cam with the truck motor rebuild just by the sound of the vid clips combined with the idle complaints and plug condition.

but you have addressed that for now.

but one other thing is your exaust. at this power level and intended use as a simple summer cruiser your system is less then ideal ime...

since you have it setup double on one side i would seriously consider a dynomax ultraflow x welded up as close to the engine as possible.

outside of that run a single 3" system with a 3" dynomax welded. it will broaden the usable low end. i wish i had done that from day one...

This has been a learning experience from the start. And still is. I know my exhaust isn't the best, and may get revamped one day, but for right now, I gotta save $$$ wisely for much bigger and important things.

Thanks for the tips, though.

I opted for the battery to be mounted on the passenger side at the back(for easy access) and you were right about that tray. :annoyed: 2 hours went by and I finally "hulked" it out of there.

Lets just say that none of the sheetmetal flanges survived...................... :icon_twisted::D

Cool, now go buy some trailer fenders and weld em in! Lol. Lets see some pics of this thing.....
