wheel spacers

i was thinking about putting some wheel spacers on my truck you know to widen the stance of the truck. the wider the wheel base, the more stable a lifted truck is right? is there anyone here whjo has used or have them. feed back would be great

Your front wheel bearings will thank you to not use them.

Yep. Might also beat up the sides of the truck with stones as they will be sticking out past the fender wells. Make for some cool rooster tails in the rain though!

if you want to widen the stance of the truck, wheel spacers in back arent horrible, but up front do a 44 knuckle and spindle swap, besides gaining much better bearing, you get a wider stance. The bearings will also handle a offset wheel more.
The only reason im considering wheel spacers out back is to go from a 5x4.5 to a 5x5.5. I would never put them on up front.

i will never uses spacers or adaptors for this reason.

i know someone whose friend had a pair and he was driving on the road, down a long straight hill. my friend was following him. wheel adaptor broke. 36" tire passed the jeep that it was on and smashed into an ambulance that was coming up the hill on its way to a call. he got sued hardcore and no longer has the jeep.

Does anyone know if I'll need them at all for the 15"x8" Jeep wheels that I'm getting in soon?


I know they have the 5x4.5 pattern.

no you wont need them.. if you want to widen your stance go shallower backspacing an deeper offset ive got a 15x8 wheels with 3 1/4 back spacing an -30mm off set an their WIDE!

So if having wheel spacers doing hurt to my bearings, Will a rim with less back spacing hurt the bearings also?

your going to take a risk with any wheel with a back spacing greater than 3 3/4.. it puts a ton more stress on them.. many guys are running wheels with a wicked amount of backspacing an off set.. just gotta keep on top of things an check your bearings more often... ive ran my wheels on my truck all summer an put about 10k on them so far an ive been fine.. ive repacked the bearings 2 times due to water crossings.. but other than that its fine.

what about those like quarter inch spacers? will they still chew up bearings as bad?

Most states only allow 0.25in wheel spacers.

if your vehicle is equiped with wheel spacers some wheel and tire shops wont work on them. i work at Discount/America's Tire Co. and its company policy that we can not work on a vehicle with spacers, unless they are the bolt on kind. just my input

The bolt on kind are illegal in most states as well. On an offroad truck they are fine. As said earlier you can lose a wheel, especially with the bolt on kind. Many of them are machined from aluminum and just don't hold up. (Yes I know aluminum wheels can are plenty strong but they mount a little better than most of these spacers). If you lose a wheel on the trail, not too big of a deal, on the street you can kill somebody. If you are going to DD the truck and really need that space a set of wheels is more expensive but much safer and both are hard on wheel bearings.
