How hard is it to install 4.56 gears at home?

Being that all the readings ive seen on the net are usually 10 plus pages of writing about the procedures, and specialy tools being needed, its not something you can just buy all the stuff and do over a weekend if you've never done it before. I haven't and I don't ever intend to Ill leave the "hard" stuff for the real mechanics.

True that man i know what you mean that is what im gunna do. But buddys dad is a machanic and he will do it for $150, and a 48 pack of Blue ribbon, and 2 packs of smokes!!:icon_thumby:

$150 bucks? Ill be there by the end of the week for MY gear swap! jk but thats not a bad price at allll.....

My local gear swap shop wanted $1000 for parts and labor.

If I bring them the 3rd member and 8.8 they drop the price to like 780 or somethin...cant remember exactly. Lets just say ill bring em the stuff and save a little.

Yeah man well that sucks dude! HE can install in for 150 i still have get all the parts but that isnt bad at all!!! But getting the parts with sure be fun! Because im broke!:bawling:

I didn't do mine in my BII, I paid someone to do it

For both axles..
400-600$ Labor
300-500$ Gear Sets
100-200$ Install kits

So...around $1000. Figure around $500 if you do it yourself, but don't fawk it up, or you will ruin your gear sets nice and quick. Ask me how I know. :icon_twisted: First time I tried, I didn't get it right and ruined my gears. I have since taken more precaution and read alot more and have been successfull on some other vehicles.

- thats bout what a shop around my neck of the woods wanted but i couldn't justify spending that much when i spent 800$ on the whole truck with a 4'' lift. I set up probably 7 sets when i was taking automotive classes and decided i'd go for it and do it myself- 15k miles and alot of offroading abuse and the gears look damn good.

Id say if you dont know what your doing, then bite the bullet and pay someone the big bucks to have it done professionally.
