Trucks

Shoot! I remember when it was Stacey and Mel, another guy!!

I remember "Project Copperhead" and "Project Crazy Horse" and of course I remember seeing Stacy shred on their matching guitars. My favourite episode was when Stacey to out the ammored personel carrier (I can't rember what it was for the life of me) and it caught a tree and no on inside even noticed it had this 30 ft thing on the roof until they got out.

I would really like to see this thing done up in a black theme just like the Marauder the motor was pulled from. Kind of a transformation. Come to think of it maybe the Marauder rims would fit underneath the RBV8. (I wonder if one of these names will stick lol)

No problem. I'd like to have the whole build on DVD when it's done.

Would it be possible to get the build? That would be pretty cool, of course I'm sure most of us would just replay the part where TRS was mentioned over and over again:D

They sell the builds on DVD from start to finish.

Im glad you guys are interested in this..... The whole inspiration of this is the SVT 5.4 Supercharged ranger in 2002....(which seems to have disappeared into thin air)

I talked to someone I know at Ford last April and he says the truck still exists.

I emailed him last night and he says

I can verify that the truck does still exist. Saw it myself at SVT about a year ago. It has since disappeared to one of our storage facilities.

I would love to take a look at one of those storage facilities.

Shoot! I remember when it was Stacey and Mel, another guy!! Back before they had "block hosts".....shoot, back before they had a name for the block of automotive shows! Back in the TNN days! Back when they did a '99/00 brand new yellow dakota and did it up old school mopar style! I think Mel only lasted through the 1st season, then it was all Stacey from there on out. And I also think HairyHauler was first started in season 1 as well? Horsepower also had a seemingly constant Chevy vs. Ford battle between it's first hosts Joe(still host, ford guy) and Chuck(bigger guy, chevy guy, hasn't been there since the 'powerblock' name was applied to the shows)

Alot of folks seem to not know much about the Gen3 prerunner style truck that was built in the first couple seasons of Trucks!...I wanna say it was '03ish? Anyway, red gen3 2wd w/ Fabtech 5.5" and 33's and full fiberglass fenders. Was never completed on-air...only got like 3 episodes. I also keep thinking they did a yellow splash, but I may be thinking of the above mentioned Dakota or that S10k project. This ain't the first Ranger that's been done on TV....Xtreme did an AWESOME off roader in their first season too(with that hottttttttty Jessie). I wanna say it was called "Ranger Resurection"?

Project: MazMarauder
Project: B4600 (custom machined aluminum emblems that mimic stock B2500 emblems, custom machined valve covers......I can see it now... )
Project: Rangerauder (sounds a little odd. lol)

But this comment from Kevin about "there may be a certain Mazda sponsored entity that comes into play", really has me thinking............that I honestly don't know of a specific mazda(non-rotory) aftermarket performance company other than "mazdaspeed"(in-house maz speedshop). Of course, I havn't looked either. Hmmmmm....

All in all, I really look forward to this build...no matter how it turns out or how aweful the paint scheme's gonna be in the end(lol). Even though some projects done by the "tv shops" I'm not 100% a fan of, I still enjoy always watching the shows and learn things and different ways to do things. Shoot, I now smear silocone with my finger on diff covers+housings or tcase halves because of Trucks! lol.

OH! And it BETTER not have ANYTHING to do with a damn Miata! Other than that circular emblem!

Been watching the show since 01, so I wouldnt remember Mel may have seen him in rerunns with Stacey David but honestly cant say I remember him sorry Mel, But i do remember Kevin Tetz and Ryan Shand of course and the predacessor of Ryan; Paul Vinson, even the breif period with all three as Paul was phased out.

And I forgot about the other Ranger projects my bad. Though does remember the Extreme 4X4 Ranger.

And speaking of Stacey David and Miatas, he built a Miata i wouldnt mind haveing, on his show Gearz. Who wouldnt want a 347 stroker powered Miata lol.

And speaking of Jessi Combs as well she was a temp co host on the latter part of this seasons Mythbusters, also an appearance on Two Guys Garage on SPEEDtv

Thanks for the support guys! We really hope that this build series will help people see the viability of doing a modular engine swap, not just the 4V engines, but the PI 2 and 3V drivetranes as well, since they're plentiful and cheap. We almost did the cop car swap with a state trooper crown vic before we found the Maruader.... 300HP is 300HP, and as you guys know, uncorking some of the restrictions on ANY engine yields great results. Ive driven a converted early Mustang with a 600 HP 281 CI 4.6 and it's a ball of fun..... so much that Im building one myself at home... Ive seen 1000 HP modular engines with a stock bottom end and im sold on the potential of the 4V configuration bigtime! We actually wanted to mimic the "Lightningbolt " SVT truck.... but the 5.4 with taller deck height presented it's own set of problems that we wouldnt have to address with the 4.6. 281 Ranger (greg) was a huge inspiration, and a nice guy too, I recommend his build thread to anyone... he's covered all the bases very methodically and built a really clean rig with a MKVIII swap.

The other misinformation we want to debunk is that this is an expensive swap.... we found several MKVIII's complete for around the $1000 to $1500 dollar mark, and the cop car was 1300 for a low mileage (wrecked) crown vic, so the "ooh its so expensive to go 4.6" argument is weak, especially knowing what it costs to build a 347.

I'll let everyone know when the shows air....

Thanks for watching!

KT.

Glad I got mine when I did, these might be hard to get after the show airs.

I vaugley remember the Ranger project. Was a red prerunner build if I remember right. Also remember the one on Xtreme (Ranger Resurection)

It seems Stacey David took some of his projects with him from when he was on Truck over to Gearz. Not sure how that worked. Both shows are in Tennesse, aren't they? Same production company maybe.

Anyway, Copperhead sits on the Gearz set a lot, as well as the big army looking green truck (not sure of the name). Das Bronco was on a couple times too. I remember him saying once that, a lot of times, once the build is done they cannot be sold due to insurance purposes and hence are either decoration or sent to the crusher.

I wish I could drop my engine in like that. I have to pull the engine and tranny together because I can't get to the top bellhousing bolts with it in the truck. The 4.6L looks like it belongs in the truck though.

Now THAT'S a fat engine!!! :icon_thumby: That must intimidate anyone who looks under the hood!!

I'd stay away from the cop car motors. Cop cars just have a beefed up suspension and cooling package. I've had many new Crown Vic's in my career with the state. It;s quick, but it's a base engine. A friend had a Lincoln. Now that was a fast car, but it also had the better 4.6 in it.

Johnboy, has the cooling been an issue for you at all???
