Way to go Ford! Simply F@CKING genious!!

So? Do you flip out and post up a thread because of something inconvenient you find on your almighty TACO?

When did I flip out? I have posted on forums about the Tacoma's little quirks too.

oh snap a 6 speed every yota truck out now has a damn 6 speed nothin to brag about sorry but your not special

Did I say I was? I pointed out that I prefer a stick. Couldn't find one in a Ranger unless I went with a lower model (engine, driveline, cab).

This thread got out of hand fast. LOL Typical of the haters I have collected on this site.

The point is, I CAN check the fluid. The REAL point is that Ford should have thought of this little thing beforehand. I removed the dipstick tube and bent it a few degrees forward and I have corrected what Ford couldn't be bothered to do.

WRONG. The autos in the newer fords still have the same maintenance schedule as the older ones (with dipsticks) did. 50,000km's is a trans flush and 100,000km's is a flush and filter change.

Again, wrong. They still have a maintenance schedule as I posted above. Your warranty will be void if you do not follow their maintenance schedule.

That is closer to being right, they wanted to stop owners from tampering with the fluid levels. They are similar to checking the level on as a diff, but not quite. The transmission pan has a stand pipe in it with a plug in the center of it. You have to have the trans up to a certain temperature (monitored with Fords scan tool) then remove the plug, you should have not a drip and not a stream but a dribble of fluid coming out of the stand pipe.

You can also fill the transmission through the stand pipe with a special tool. You fill a canister with trans fluid, attach the hose to the stand pipe and use air pressure to push the fluid into the pan.

Hope that helps to answer some of the questions about the not having a dip stick issue.
Darn tootin' right. I could probably still got on FMCdealer.com and copy the instructions.

and he realized this today?
so its the first time hes checking tranny fluid?

if your transmission is in good shape, why would you need to check it?

BMW says that most of the time the digital display reading is off. We drained the oil out completely today, put in 4 Quarts of oil and started the engine up to see what it would read. It read full again or Max. Let the car sit for 30 minutes and started it back up watching that little thing run in circles trying to calculate the oil that is in there . Then again it read full, but it could not possible be at Max with just 4 quarts in there, so we added another quart to make it 5 quarts in there and it read Max again after letting sit for another 15 minutes and rechecking the oil level. This was done leaving the oil filter in there. The thing is not accurate in any way or is not working. We asked BMW what they would do and they said that most of them seem to have the same problem and the only thing that they could advise us to do is empty or drain the oil out completely, replace oil filter ( Drain oil from there as well ) and put in the amount advised by the manufacturer. We asked if w could double check the level after or if there was any other way of verifying the amount of oil that was in there and we told " NO! " since the dipstick was eliminated by the manufacturer now.

Hey Jason... I don't pay attention to you ever so I dunno, but are you whippersnapper over on r/f?

Heres an idea of how to fix your tiny issue with your tranny dipstick. Cut off the side of the tab that is hitting the hose, then heat the other side till its soft and bend it into a hook shape so its easy to pull out next time. Very simple fix.

Alright...everyone settle down, keep it civil and this thread might stay alive.

Capice?

PS I have never had an issue getting one of those dipsticks out?! Maybe that is because i check probably 10 a week?

I didn't know you were Italian Sasquatch!
Jason had a legit gripe........let it go.I could spend all day picking peoples posts apart on here as well as people picking mine.Save the pissing contest for the political form.

I ran across so much stupidity in GM's that I will almost surely never have another unless someone wills it to me. Chrysler too. Ford has mostly been ok with what I have had to do. All the basic stuff is normally easy. Sometimes the more involved things go wrong like the spark plugs on my Dad's old Aerostar but that's not a big deal really. How often do you change plugs?
