I know I shouldn't post this because I haven't searched the site for the answer, I know its in the tech library somewhere, but....

I found a 4.10 l/s 7.5 (axle: D7) out of an 89 Bronco II. I have a 96 2.3 Ranger with an open 3.45, 7.5. Is it a direct swap? If not, what mods need to be done. Its going for super cheap and I know it will be gone by noon tomorrow so any quick help is GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!

Of course I plan on rebuilding the l/s and changing gaskets, fluids, etc.

Just read the thread a couple lines down. How much narrower is the B2 axle?

It's the same width as a gen3 ranger rear. The pumpkin is more centered than the ranger rear, so your drive shaft might get close to your gas tank. The spring pads are about 1/2" off from the ranger rear... but you can "make" it work...

Dude, Thankyou.

By 'make' it work, will there be welding involved? Just want to know how much work I'm getting into before I go spend all the extra doe i have..:(

Don't quote me on this, but couldn't you also just take the carrier/ gears and all (not the axles) and put them into your axle housing? Seems to me that would work.

Hard way: cut spring pads off, weld new ones on.

Redneck: oblong holes in pads for the spring centering pins.

Ultra redneck: Bow the springs a tad and force them into the perches.

to late no you would still need to set the pinion for the new housing but i am not sure on this but maybe just swap carriers?

If you swap the gears and carrier you'll need to set everything up again. Pinion bearing preload, pinion depth, etc.

That's more work in my opinion that grinding off the perches and rewelding them.
