should i make adjustments or am i fine ?

i am having an issue of i cannot hear anyone unless i kill the Squelch and crank the RF Gain , i hate the sound of the static , but i cant hear anything if i turn the squelch up and the gain down :dunno: :annoyed:

Lol, yeah turning the RF gain down is basically the same as holding your fingers in your ears (you can only hear something if it's real loud (or close by).

The RF gain should normally stay at max unless you are getting interference from a nearby strong signal. Turn the squelch up just enough until it blanks out the noise. Then you should be good.

SWR looks OK, although it does favor the higher channels (meaning the antenna is a hair shorter than ideal). Looks like your pic was taken at an angle though. If that Ch 1 reading is 1.5 or below, I honestly wouldn't worry about it.

CH 1 = 1.5 dead on
CH 20 = 1.4
CH 40 = 1.3

and i will have to crank the RF Gain , i know with the RF Gain down and the DSC flipped on i had a recieving range of 9 miles while moving

and what is that DSC switch next to my Channel Display , it seems to act like an automatic squelch ?

EDIT: Looking at this radio ( http://www.cbradiosplus.com/shop/pc/viewprd.asp?idcategory=53&idproduct=387 ) to replace the PC68 in the near futuee , anyone have input on this , it says it has a high SWR , isnt that a bad thing ?

EDIT 2 : ore one of these 2 units http://www.livecbradio.com/ranger-rci-tlm1.htm http://www.cbradiosplus.com/shop/pc/viewprd.asp?idcategory=53&idproduct=397

I would call CSV Electronics man. He is in Buffalo and really knows his stuff. He is also honest to a fault. He lost a sale to me once because I wanted to buy stuff that he said wouldn't work. Giving up a 200 dollar sale in the process. All in stock stuff too.

Evenings only.

so other than that one bad experience with him , you think he is a generally good guy ?

I wasn't a bad experience really. I wanted to buy a mount that would not work for my truck due to no ground. He refused to sell me something that wouldn't work. I respect that.

ok , i understand now , and before i buy a new one i want to try to find my Uniden Grant XL and get it fixed , does he fix radios too ?

I believe so.

ok , thanks , my dad gave me a Uniden Grant XL a few years back , it was the only radio he would used in his rig for the 18 years he drove OTR , it has seen just about every kind of rig there is.

If you want, try adding a 3" spacer or something of equivalent length (quick disconnect, etc.) at the bottom of your antenna. That should drop your SWR probably 2-3 tenths. I wouldn't expect much more than just a slight signal strength improvement though.

Not sure what DSC is (what does your radio's manual say?)

"High SWR" must be a misprint of some sort. The radio itself would have nothing to do with the SWR of your antenna.

if i had a manual i could tell you , but this radio was a freebie from my father

EDIT : Found what it stands for - Dynamic Squelch Control - have no clue what it does
