Where to Buy Gears (Canadian)

Ok so Ive decided to just buy gears and put em in myself. (can`t be too hard right) But my question is where is the cheapest to buy from. I live in Canada so take that into consideration. I was thinking TRS fab and offroad but they say shipping to lower 48. Do they ship to Canada. Thanks for any tips on how to save!

ebay. search for whatever gears you need an shop around. usually could find some good deals. if you have never done gears bebore an dont have the tools, i would recomend takin it to a professional shop an havin them do them. if they are not properly set up it could destroy the whole axle(ring an ipinion gear, bearings ext)

Aight thanks guys. I wanna A) Save $$$ and B) learn about diff's so I wanna put them in myself. Once I take things apart I can usually figure things out, I'm pretty good mechanically and my boss is a heavy duty mechanic and he said its not too hard. So if i run into trouble i can ask him, i believe he'd lend me tools too. Also can I rebuild my limited slip? Is that possible. (I'm still a newbie when it comes to diffs as you can tell)

It's not difficult to swap gears but you do have to get them right, good enough won't do. It depends what type of lsd you have, the clutch type you can rebuild. I would suggest reading about gears and lsd's in the tech section a few time before you start.

Dweano I recently put a limited slip into my rear end with no knowledge other then whats on this site. It took me a few hours, mostly making sure things were right.

Yes you can rebuild them. The kits available from the dealer or other places. The kit from the dealer comes with the additive for the rear end fluid for the limited slip to "slip" better. Soak the plates in rear end fluid for a few hours before you put them into the carrier. If you don't the fluid doesn't get in between the plates where its needed to lube the slip plates and cause early wear on the plates .

Some of the hard parts on the help section like putting in the S spring back I had no trouble with at all. I just gave the spring a good firm smack with a hammer and a block of wood. I actually had a harder time getting it out then putting it back.

Alright sweet, this is sounding encouraging...Once i get my act together I will most likely start a help me thread haha. And i have limited slip stock in my 8.8...still rebuildable? It was doing weird things so i figure if i got stuff apart I may as well rebuild.

Thanks Derek! You are a smarter man than the derek I know (Blew his rear diff...whipped his truck into 4x4 and dragged it home...ouch) anyways, I'm going to take Sasquatch_Ryda's advice and go with justdifferentials. Just double checking...this is what i should be getting right?

Looks like you got everything you will need to rebuild your diffs. You will need a dial indicator for checking the backlash once you get them installed. The place you are buying the parts from should be able to sell you the rebuild kit for the posi as well.

As far as shipping it all just depends on how fast you want it delivered. I got a rebuilt computer from the states today and there was no duty on the parts. A sub I ordered from the states cost me $50 thru UPS just for the duty charges so stay away from UPS unless you pay for the expedited service then duty is included. If you are willing to wait for your parts go with USPS ground, but it can take up to 3 weeks.

If you're still looking for 4.56 gears, I have a set for the D35, as well as a rebuild kit that includes all the bearings, races, and seals. I'm in Calgary so I could probably just drop them onto a greyhound for you. PM me if you're interested.

Anything coming from the US is going to be hit with duty when it crosses the border, however the advantage to USPS over UPS is that there are no brokerage fees. I'd look into local sources for gears, there are a few places in Saskatoon and Regina. Performance Parts Distributors, GSS Performance Parts, and probably a few more...
