5.4L Triton in a Ranger?


:D I had a 5.4 in my Ranger once. Bolted right in too. :yahoo: It's now in my 77 Comet. :icon_thumby:

I just know you're going to confuse the hell out of someone, don't tell them you're also running tri-power.

Anything is doable, from what I've read the 5.4L is way too big to fit without a ton of fabrication. A Ford 460 fits better than the 5.4L, since the 5.4L has a very long block.

But if you've got the time and skills, anything is doable! :icon_welder:

5.4 is slightly wider, the 460 is longer.

What's the stock HP rating on a truck 5.4, something like 300? Sure don't seem like there would be much payback in doing the swap. Rebuilding any of the mod motors is expensive, really limited on boring and stroking options. Can always throw a blower on it but thats $2500-5000. Guess I'm too much old school but would sure go with a small block stroker, especially in a late model.

The 2V is 260 hp 350 ft lbs, the 3V is 300 hp 365 ft lbs. I do know that judging by what some members on here have done putting 4.6's in their trucks, a 5.4 might not be that bad.

I wouldn't bother putting a 3V into anything though, that is when they started getting VERY complex.

You have a sick sense of Humor, like it. Having 10 intake plates made up that say "Ranger 5.0", just like what comes on the Explorer motor intake.
